  • Hi Allen and Phil,

It is still too early for me to really give a detailed comment on the 3100 as we are very busy with projects when the camera reached our hand. Anyway, these are the first impressions:
On the appearance, it is smaller, lighter, come in “cooler” black color, and well, more plastic feel to it compared to 2000 and HDX900. We also like the SDI IN that comes as standard, a better looking LCD screen and the 5.6K filter instead of the 3.2K cross filter.

As for the picture quality, it’s a big WOW in our office, sharper, much cleaner than the 2000 (on a Pana BT-LH2600 monitor), and you can even dial in -6dB. But I am not too sure how the 3100 compete with the Sony equivalent in this respect, anyone?

The fact that it doesn’t do 720P is not bothering us as we are still keeping the 2000.

Allen, what on-camera mic do you couple with the cam, do you use the Pana AJ-MC900? I have a Sanken CMS-10 now but would like to know if i have more alternatives. Thanks.

    Cheers,
    KH

  • Thanks for you info Allen, I guess I will go for the Chrosziel. You make my day 🙂

thanks for the response, jeremy, but no, both are in 16×9. thats what intrigue me. I am using both HPX2100 and Z1, i don’t have this problem when recording in SD for these two cameras.

Hope this info will help you to probe further 🙂

    Hi Rodney and Ty,

I just come back from a three day shooting. Thanks for the inputs, I shall check with my supplier whether I can take a listen to the Adam’s to make a comparison.

Thanks for all the input folks, I guess this is the “you get what you pay” scenario. Peace of mind does come with a cost.
Unless I can get the assurance from the vendor that the support is good, otherwise it would be as good as building your own system 🙂

as far as I know, there is no difference, this is a way for Panasonic to track the origin of the camera ( the reason told by the guy who sold me my 2100). The 2100 should be the 2000’s Asia version.
