Is 5400rpm Hard disk drive in Macbookpro enough for DVCPRO HD editing
Hi,
I am planning to get a McBookPro to do some mobile editing. We are currently working in DV25 enviroment but will soon be moving on to DVCPRO HD by getting the HPX2100 camcorder.I always believe that hard disks with 7200rpm should be used for video editing but the guy who try to sell me the macbookpro said that 5400rpm onboard should be fine and I don’t have to change it to 7200rpm. can someone please enlighten me on this.

I use a firelite external drive when I am traveling with my laptop and have to edit DVCPRO HD.

It is 5400rpm. It works fine. It is not an all the time solution, but offers great convenience.
I’ve also edited with DVCPRO HD media on the internal hard drive of the PowerBook (it is a G4, 1.67, 2MB ram.) I don’t recommended, but has worked in a pinch.
I have not tested capturing from tape to the firelite, so I can’t comment on this. If you have a P2 solution, tape capture may not be relevant.

G Tech has just come out with their G Raid Mini that was made for what you want to do. It looks like it will support 3 streams of DVCPro HD.
