What version of FC are you using?

Versions prior to 6.0.3 were liable to corrupt multi-clips when media was moved from one system to another, someimtes even when moved to different drives on the same system.

If your only problem is that you are getting green bars it might be that your home drives aren’t fast enough – multi-clips require a lot of drive speed.

Lana’s original post stated that her material was 1080i/24 – not 29.97. It should be a simple cross convert without a need to change frame rates.

You are correct that the 1200A can’t cross convert 1080i to 720P via firewire. If you cared to spend the money on a Aja or Blackmagic I/O device ($1500 – $2500) you could cross convert on ingestion thru them.

As it is there is no reason to go to ProRes, it introduces another codec conversion for no benefit. I would ingest all material as 1080i and then either use the Final Cut media manager or Compressor to create new 720P files from them.

And while the dog didn’t eat my homework, back when I was a kid, in medieval times, my dog once ate one of my brand new shoes, which back then was no small financial outlay, and managed to survive my father’s intent to “throw that little bastard into the bay with a rock around his neck” only by the incessant pleading of a trio of crying kids, who promised to do all their homework for ever and ever and to clean up their rooms from now on without being told. Of course after the stay of execution all promises were quickly broken and life went on as usual, minus the shoe.

If this is the dumbest stuff you’ve heard from a film schooler then your living a charmed life.

While statements 2 and 5 reveal a certain level of ignorance and answer 3 indicates some limitations in cerebral functioning not uncommon to the young, his comments re: Blade runner and Alien just indicate that he doesn’t like the work of Riddley Scott – an opinion I tend to share – and prefers the work of James Cameron. Surely this is not an outrageous statement – I know many people who prefer Aliens to Alien.

As for Blade Runner, it was revolutionary in it’s Art Direction, it had the good sense to show the young Daryl Hannah in skin tight outfits as often as possible, and it provided Phillip Dick with some much needed money and recognition in his last year on earth. Other than that, well what can you expect from a movie that passed over the original book title “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” for the empty hipness of “Blade Runner.”
