Thanks Brendon, I’ve just tested a few different setting and looks good!
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Great, thanks Ridley. I’ll take a look, although I’m wondering if I will have to create something more custom for what the client has asked for. Thanks for your help with this though, much appreciated.

    Hi Chris,

Have you checked your Character settings in the Character window?

Im not sure if this helps, but I tried to get it for CS6 and the plug in hadn’t been updated for it. I ended up using CS5 to do the job. Are you sure that what you are trying to install is compatible to the version of AE you have?

Ah great, thanks Brendon! I’ve seen this transition a few times so I’ll give this a go. If I wanted to create a more defined edge to the text transition (as I’ve seen it were the text kind of comes in through curly shapes rather than a ‘dissolve’ as such, if that makes sense), would I use something different than Fractal Noise – maybe make a different displacement?

Thanks for your help with this!

Thanks for the responses, it was a question out of curiosity more than not being happy with the quality of ProRes 4444. I’m generally ok with rendering using the render queue as I usually do it that way, but some really helpful tips regarding colour depth etc that I tried today and the graphics in my edit looked great! You’ve put my mind at rest I’m doing it the best way so I’ll stick to the method I’m using (along with the tips you’ve given me)! Thanks guys 🙂

May 22, 2013 at 6:17 pm in reply to: Exporting uncompressed avi files?

Hi Kris, Thanks for the response. The specific requirements I need are an uncompressed AVI. That is the format that runs on the digital board system the creative is for. I have been using the workflow of exporting from After Effects as an uncompressed .mov, then using QuickTime Pro to convert to an uncompressed AVI (using the ‘None’ option in QuickTime). This has always worked perfectly. Now I have lost this option in QT and can’t find another way to convert the file to an AVI without compression. As you stated, I can’t do this straight from AE because I am on a Mac.

I guess I’m asking if there is an alternate workflow I can use to get an uncompressed AVI? I was hoping Media Encoder could be an option, but knew it could also be a long shot..

May 20, 2013 at 8:47 pm in reply to: Grass through glass?

Hi Cassius, thanks for the response.

I am using hair and I have tried this but I’m having the problem that when I tick the Reflection/Refraction/Traced Shadows option it doesn’t render at all, not even in Active View. When that option is unchecked you can’t see the grass when rendered, only the glass, soil etc.
I’m not sure if its just that it would take a very long time to render but there isn’t much grass there so not sure..

I’ve attached the settings I have..

    Hi Brian,

Thanks for the response. I just read your message and went back through my light settings. I found the shadow option and turned it on and it worked! Don’t know how I missed it. Thanks again!

  • Yes thats it! Thank you so much! Got there in the end 🙂
