    Yes, Walter,

But Wall Street (and that sorta means me because I am a mini-player in that world) has always been wary of the Great Apple Leader because he is so eccentric and – well – a bit nutty.

He’s clearly a visionary and a leader, but the Street doesn’t like a company which is forced to insure the life of its CEO for a vast yearly sum – like Bob Shaye used to be at NewLine.

It’s just not happy street thinking.

Apple stock has run up so much over the last three to four months that it’s difficult to imagine that there will not be a pullback. You know the saying: “Buy on the rumor, sell on the news”

Stick your money in an ETF like KOL (coal)! or maybe natural gas.

    Enough nonsensical rambling from me.

You could always use ANDY’S GRADIENT FILTER which is a free plug in located at the website of the great ANDY MEES.

There are several really high quality plugs on his sits. I use them a lot.

    ALSO —-

    ANDY MEES is a GOD.

Yep. This happens. It’s Apple’s way of telling you that this program is not written to military spec.

    Drives me nuts.

I render in little chunks, or shot by shot in complex areas, and save save SAVE SAVE between mini-renders.

I have yet to find anyone who has slain this dragon.

(PS. I am on an Octo also – almost the same ssetup except that I’m using ProRes).

  • Wow, Zane!

Can you please tell me what the application is that you refer to which disables journaling without having to reformat?

I’ve just posted this message on another site in response to a similar question:

I’ve just been through a major nightmare of this nature and tried every piece of software I could find to open my corrupted 75gig HD file. I asked questions on all the boards and failed to find anyone or any service that could help me …

    until …

I found a guy in Balcelona in Spain who specializes in rescuing corrupt Quicktime files. He claims to be the only guy in the world doing this.

He rescued a 90 minute HD file for me and his initial charge is $149.

For this he sends you a piece of software which takes a sample of your corrupt file. Then you email him this tiny slice. He examines it and, if he can help you, he adapts his software to your own particular problem.

He then emails you an application to fix your problem. If he fixes your problem and you are happy, you pay him by credit card or whatnot and he then emails you a code which does the final fix.

It’s almost unbelievable, I know. But it worked for me.

I had to have two passes done because of unforeseen difficulties, so it cost me $300. I was so grateful to him for fixing something which would have taken me days to replace and recut that I sent him an extra $100. So total $400.

I’m at home right now and not at my office. If you want his website and email and so on, reply to this email and I’ll post the information in the morning.

Oh. OK. Thanks a million. I had, however, understood that Nattress did a better job than FCP, but I’ll take your advice anyway.

Best wishes and thanks again from an idiot,

    Sean,

Thanks so much for your post.

    That’s enormously helpful.

One question: should I conform before or after I have converted the file to PAL using Nattress Convertor?

I know that if you do what you did about a thousand references to the word “conform” come up. However, can you please tell me which of those pages of references will help me?

I don’t know what I am supposed to conform to what, you see.

I don’t, for instance, see any reference to speeding up the film by 4%. And if I search under PAL, I cannot find the word “conform” in the same searched area.

Your post makes me sound like a lazy idiot, but that’s untrue. I really did give it a good shot – you see?

Can you give me any positive help, or is it just that it makes you feel hot to criticize me for being ignorant and perhaps, in your perception, lazy?

Sorry, but I think you’re being unfair.

    Thanks for the reply.

I’ll definitely give that a try this morning.
