    Yes, I did.

I’m wondering if I should go through the whole prefs trashing thing.

    Thanks for the reply

I don’t know. There’s nothing in the Blackmagic menu to give me 1440×1080.

    Does anyone else know?

    ok Guys.

In my A/V settings I have:

    Summary:

    Sequence preset: HDV – 1080i60
    Capture preset: HDV
    Video Playback:
    Blackmagic HDTV 1080i 29.97Hz – 8 bit (1920×1080)

    Sequence presets:

    HDV – 1080i60

    Capture presets:

    HDV

    Video playback:

    Blackmagic HDTV 1080i 29.97Hz – 8 bit (1920×1080)

Can either of you spot a mistake here?

    Best,

    in increasing desperation,

OK, so I just captured with the plain “HDV” capture setting. I assume that’s what is meant by “native”?

Now I am able to drag the QT file into the timeline, but I get a red render bar, and FCP apparently doesn’t want to render it when I tell it to.

Wierd, huh. Or me being stupid is more likely.

By the way, I can hear the sound just fine.

    Help!

I am using FCP 5.0.4. Mac OSX.4.4 Dual 2 gig G5 with 2 gigs Ram and the latest Quicktime that software update gave me.

I have already digitised the file via firewire from the Canon XL H1. I was able to see the image during capture on the capture screen. I captured it twice. The file is about 7.2 megs and I’m guessing that the shot lasts about one minute. So I’m assuming that I did manage to actually get it into the computer.

I did use an easy setup, but I think I had to adapt it to use Apple Intermediaye Codec for HDV, which I thought we were supposed to do, no?

Perhaps I should not be using Apple Internediate codec to digitise? Maybe I should use the other HDV one?

    I’ll try that.

But please let me know any further thoughts, and my thanks for your prompt response to my post.

I ordered and, after endless promises, have now given up, even though I am #14 on the list at Birns and Sawyer Hollywood.

Saw demo of HVX followed immediately by demo of Canon XL H1. Canon was available right then.
Bought the Canon instead. Works fine.Looks good. Better glass. No crap about P2 card non-availability.

I have had perfectly respectable results with a 1 hour 40 minute feature film burn. I understand that the quality remains the same up to 2 hours.

Thank youboth Graeme and Walter for your prompt and practical replies.

I am going to get on to Graeme’s guy on Monday and meanwhile have also posted on Blackmagic forum as per Walter’s advice. I didn’t know that there was one.

Hmmm. Yes. I get a new Sequence, but then when I double click that sequence icon I get a message which says “codec not founf. You may be using a compression type without the corresponding hardware card.”

    Any further thoughts?

    Thanks a millions,
