    is there a solution which I don’t see in the “Graph Editor” maybe? As far as I know for now u can only edit speed behavior between keyframes here. Or is there a way to get to what I am looking for (getting smooth curves between my position keyframes instead of gooing only straight)?

    I see, but normally I wouldn’t need too much QT in Avid, right?

    hi James,

    can you tell, what is the bad thing about “FCP and Avid update in different cycles”? As you mention that it seems there must be any disadvantage about it. What is it?

    hi Terrence,

    no I don’t. It’s still a psd with several textlayers with transparency and a background.

    hi Rhett, thanks for your reply

    > 150 DPI… is that your raster effects preview setting in AI?

    yes. but maybe I didnt make myself too clear. I dont rasterize anything. I just import an AI file into aftereffects (as footage). When I noticed the saw edges I thought about bad rastering resolution, thats why I put the settings as i told you. Honestly I dont know, what happens to the paths, when importing an entire file.

    > quick solution is to check the “continuous rasterization” box

    no improvement at all whith that

    > and the “best quality” switch”)for that layer in your timeline.

    when clicking that it gets worse, so it was ‘best quality’ already
    I frequently simply enlarge the .AI file, and get away with that.

    I use the Logos just at half of their size and it looks even worse than in 100% size.

    hm, stuck here a little.

    thx anyway

  • yes it can be connected. Easiest way is to take ‘drag’ it with the mouse to the property in the other composition you want to linkt it to. So you don’t need to think too much about how this part expression has to exactly look like.

    good luck

    minOpac = 50;
    maxOpac = 100;

    centerY = thisComp.height/2;
    dist = Math.abs(toWorld(anchorPoint)[1] - centerY);
    s = ease(dist,0,centerY,maxOpac,minOpac);
    [s,s]

    hi Dan,

    thanks. that exactly does it. As I am trying to understand whats going on I experimented a little. Trying to use it for other properties.

    When using it for “Opacity” I get an error “Expression result must be of dimension 1, not 2. Error occured in line 0.”

    I don’t get it. What’s the problem here? Of course I have to admit, that I am not relly too experienced with expressions and need to build up with the basics still.

    thx

    January 22, 2009 at 11:08 pm in reply to: exporting QT to edit in FinalCutPro

    hi Arnie,

    yes you are right. Sorry, maybe I didn’t make myself clear enough. I found a solution in the FCP forum to install Avid codes on a MAC and then just use them in FCP. Only to get 4 Audio tracks on the QT from the Avid is still an issue.

    In the export settings (newscutter XP) I can only choose mono or stereo. So ist this a Problem of the Avid? As far as I know a QT should be capable of carrying 4 audio tracks, right?

    thx anyway

    January 21, 2009 at 10:02 am in reply to: export QT from Avid to edit in FCP

    hi John,

    thanks, that worked pretty well. Installed the Avid Codecs on the mac and now can use the QT I got out of the Avid (newscutter XP by the way).

    Now there is one more issue. I have 4 Audio Tracks captured in the Avid (let’s say DV 50 MXF). Is there a way to get all the 4 Tracks out as seperated tracks in my QT file? As far as I know QT 7 should be capable of handling that, right? But how to do from the Avid side?

    December 4, 2008 at 10:58 pm in reply to: field dominance issues

    hm, I gave it a shot in “Apple DVCpro50”. The file runs very well in my timeline and viewer (much better then mp4) but the size is around 5 times as big as the .vob I am staring from. Is there any advantage in this? I mean if any video is already compressed it can’t get any better by using a codec that might lead to better results from the same riginal source, right?

    So what would be the purpose to use dvcpro50 for riping a DVD video? (by the way, it is the only material nvolved in my project)

    thx
    Gunnar
