My Dad didn’t know what I did for a living until I brought him to an edit session at CMT while he was visiting me. He thought I had selected a non creative venture and as he put it… “I thought an editor beeps cuss words and blurs boobies.” lol
I was well into my 3rd decade of video when he stopped asking me if I were still doing that video thing.

I am so glad I get to teach now. The first thing my students learn from me is this (editor) is by far the most creative position in television.

My normal rate.. 195/hr.
Rates should not change because of the client or end result. They are paying for your time and expertise. Or your brother’s, anyway.
Today, I often quote a flat bid per production. I just calculate my rate by the time I’ll put into it. A minute video, I may shoot in a couple of hours and have it edited by the end of the day. So for these kinds of things, I often just say $1,200 to begin a new working relationship with a new client.
