I didn’t see any lens flairs (and was glad). I did see some luma keys of a canned effect from artbeats. They become recognized as they are over used…. as in this video. You can create your own in Avid or in After effects by using various elements with glows and blurs. You can save em and compisite them as mentioned above or better yet, one-off them per project so they are always appropriate and unique.

Your tools are not important, Kelton. Your pushing them to their limits is what will get ya gigs. Create a sweeet reel, shop it around and take the first internship offered. You need real work experience and this is how you’ll get your foot int he door.

Realestate companies shoot realeastate tours (hance the stuff ya see). Video companies make videos. It’s an either or thang. -
I realize most don’t bill ful rate for travel. I just see no reason not to though and I am not going to penalize myself for travelling for them. I’m on the road too much as it is. I’d only be away from my family more if I rewarded it by charging less.

This one of the great things about being a one man band. I base my bids on the time I’ll have in the project. My travel time is not excluded. It’s time I could not be billing something else. Full rate here.

Even though I can offer a flat bid for a turn-key project, I do mention the hourly rate I base that off of before wasting anyone’s time going into an initial meeting. We’ve all done it once… talk about a project for an hour only to find they can’t afford the meeting, let alone a video.

For me, their needing to have a meeting is my first red flag. It’s as easy as “can you have a turn-key project done by Friday?”

“can you do it for X amount of dolalrs?”
yes.
that’s a five minute phone call or two emails. More than that and they often are looking for free consultation for when they have their son in law do it. -
Just color correct each shot as best you can. In most cases, if ya can’t hide, accentuate it but in this case, I’d just tweek each shot to the best it can look.
As an editor, I get footage from everyone all over the globe from great DPs to local news photogs. I am not in the practice of leaving any shot untreated. To me, it’s not color correction at all… it’s color creativity. -
Just build that reel, man. Your age is not something that will come up during negotiations.

No worries.
You can’t be expected to work for free either and the way you bill is up to you… not them.
Sounds like you should just weed them out of the equasion and makle more money by doing work for the actual client while saving them a lot of money.
I’d certainly never provide a service for a douche that threatens a brother with a law suit.

Short answer, sure.
One man band video is more and more the norm. It’s your selling point… the ability to quote a flat price for a turn-key project when companies with bigger crews that are usually not required can’t do that. It’s been my saving grace during this depression.
