They are the ones using you. You will be utilizing them. Two different things.

After you shoot the trapeze artist over a keyable source, you can use spectramatte to key out the background. You will have best luck with well-lit ultimatte green but blue is still widely used.

Just charge by the hour. Your hours will add up in cleaning up his work. It’d be much faster on your end if you could just select a color, key it out and render a clip for him. Don’t be penalized by poor production.

Just do it for free, learn and apply next time. your client won’t care what gear or people you ultilize. They just care about their video and they are not going to want to pay you to learn how to do it.

    LOL
Of course there is. You listed a handful of plugins that wind up costing more but offering less than AE, which is still an arguable requirement to all Avid editors. My point is just use AE and call it done. It offers much more capabilities and we still have to use it’s open in every session in most cases, anyway.

In a time when gigs are hard to come by, limiting them more with contracts is probably not a cost-effective thing in the long run. I have found being a very cool dude helps. When everyone else is leaning hard, playing good cop/bad cop and other hard ball tactics, I often let em slide upwards of ninty days before calling and telling them I totally understand, then politly asking when I can expect a partial payment. You really do get more with honey. Perhaps it’s because I don’t bluff well and my tough guy act is seen as an act. Or maybe I just really do understand. Then again, maybe I really need the money and would rather keep good relations with all that I can.
There are many that won’t go near a contract when they don’t have to and the truth is, when looking for a freelancer, no company has to. Test it if you can afford it. You’ll see this is the case.

As Bob mentioned, they have specs for a reason. That reason is usually because that was what was written on the spec sheet when the current dude got the job there. Quite often, his dad is the one who wrote and he has no idea what it means.
Bottom line, shoot on what ya want, master to what they need. Call it done.
