[marcel franck] “the settings you refer to are for still picture resolution – not video…you need to read the manual”
The reason I wrote the post is because I have read the manual and it says very little other than choice SD or HD frame size. The image quality setting seem to have no effect on video only still images. I use only manual mode and If I’m having difficulty seeing the display or for more critical focus I use a Canon angle finder and/or my Marshall 8″ HD LCD.

[marcel franck] “you do need a basic understanding of videography and photography”
I’ve been a filmmaker and photographer for 19 years. The past 7 years i’ve used almost every flavor of HD video camera on the market. But non of that seems to help me when it come to shooting video with my 5DII.

October 19, 2009 at 12:58 am in reply to: No more support for Duel Adaptor?

Thanks Michael, that’s a great solution. Not only for the P2 field machine but I can also use the boot drive on all my other systems when I discover more grief with OSX 10.6!

I’m also considering the Sonnet Qio for field and edit suite use because the eSATA connection will dramatically speed up transfers of P2 and Compact Flash cards from my 5D mark II.

October 18, 2009 at 9:50 pm in reply to: problems with Motion in FCS3

No I didn’t make a clone. My assistant assistant is making the mods to the text as needed and re-rendering. It’s just an odd glitch that I wondered if anyone else experienced. But it’s probably just the ghosts in my machines. Not life, or job, threatening.

    Thanks David.

One of each actually. My Quad w/ LHe was a clean install and the 8 core was an overwrite. boths systems experience the same problems with Motion.

August 14, 2009 at 3:51 pm in reply to: Sync Sound Problem

That is strange. Are they Bwave files (broadcast wav)? You could try converting one clip to an AIFF 16bit/48Khz in iTunes and see if that makes a difference.

I’ve had some issues with sync when exporting OMF files for my audio post guys so maybe there is some glitch with FCP.

    August 14, 2009 at 3:44 pm in reply to: 32GB P2 card for $495?

[Jeremy Garchow] “it’s just that the E series is rated for use of filling up the card once a day, every day, for 5 years. That’s 1825 uses guaranteed. That’s a lot.”

I would bet that that if you open up an A card and an E card you won’t find much difference. I think the E card is just Panasonic’s way of releasing a product with a more reasonable price point. I’m curious to see someone do a side by side comparison test.

Are you using a wideangle adaptor or is that one of the new “wider” zoom lens from Fujinon for the HPX300?

August 14, 2009 at 3:28 pm in reply to: Playing back through HD-SDI

AJA make a mini converter that take HD/SDI to HDMI. Be warned they are not cheap and yu have to order the power supply separately.

August 14, 2009 at 3:01 pm in reply to: Primatte Keyer for FCP, Motion, or AE

    I agree with John.

Keylight for FCP is great and I believe it does a better job than Primatte in Motion. For good basic keying it works very well without the hassles of exporting your media to another app. Although you have finer control of Keylight in AE if you are working with problematic green or blue screen footage or want to do more complex compositing.
