[Shane Ross] “because HD doesn’t have these differing formats.”

So what would happen if you have:1920×1080, 1440×1080, 1280×720 and 960×720 HD all in the same open timeline?

[David Roth Weiss] “What you do you think 720p might show? Hope I don’t have to prove that to you too… “

    No lack of sarcasm here…

So the same holds true for 720 as well as 1080? What about HDV?

    I’m using a Sony DVW-A500

There IS NO problem.I don\’t seem to see these issues working in HD and it\’s been 3 years since I\’ve worked in SD.

It\’s just a bit perplexing to see one thing in FCP, that is different, from what I see on the DBC deck whether it is set to H-BLK wide or narrow.

[Shane Ross] “DO your sequence settings match the clip settings? Because DV50 is 720×480, and uncompressed SD is 720×486…so there might be something there. But I doubt you’d see the 6 pixels though… “

    Hi Shane

I searched the forum to shed some light on a concern I’m having with a DVCPro50 project that was shot and ingested in 2007 as ProRes 422 HQ. We are versioning the show in English and I’m noticing black lines on the vertical edge of the frame. I thought that DVCPro50 was 720×486. Is it true that it’s only 480? How have you dealt with this type of issue.

I’ve checked the original French DigiBeta master and I see the same line in under scan. The show passed QC so I assume I can do the same this time around or should I blow the show up by a few pixels to be safe. That’s a heck of a lot of render time that I would like to avoid.

    Thoughts?

    Cheers, greg

    Correct, my sequence is 23.98.

I talk to the mixer and the problem was he setup a 24FPS session first and that’s were the problem started. He is now wise to the ways…

    thanks Shane.

I shoot primarily in manual mode, NTSC, 1920×1080, quality-RAW, color space- sRGB, manual focus, image stabilizer off, using 16GB 300x Lexar CF cards. ISO and aperture dependent of subject and light. I use either the kit lens 24-105mm or a 70-300mm DO.

Are there other setting you would like to know?

[marcel franck] “for viewing directly from the camera on hd tv, are you using an HDMI cable?”
I use the HDMI cable to my Panasonic plasma TV. Better yet I import the footage into either of my Final Cut/AJA Kona edit suite and view on a broadcast HD monitor and see the same results. No matter how I view it I still see artifacting and banding.

It’s not the viewing it’s the capturing that is the problem. Either I am missing something or my camera is in need of service, and it’s more than likely me!

thanks for your suggestions so far…
