Bummer. I was hoping that “2” was shorthand for “to..” Probably just their second version of the functionality.

I have the same issue, and have noticed that it ALWAYS saves first–a bit of a problem when my large files take 15 sec. to save. THEN, it slowly initializes bkgnd processes for another 15 sec. In most cases when I’m working, I’ll just leave it off. It’s enough of a pain for others that someone wrote a script for it. Check out AEscripts Throttle N Purge toolbar. This at least puts the MP toggle on screen, which can be less annoying than having to fetch it out of your prefs every time. Kinda big on screen, with some other features I don’t need, but a bit helpful. It’d be better if he made a smaller “lite” version that has only the MP toggle and such.

https://aescripts.com/throttle-n-purge/Or here’s an idea: Does anyone know how we could at least pull up that exact pref screen with one keyboard shortcut? I don’t mean CMD-OPT-;. I mean CMD-OPT-; + the Multiprocessor screen. Or even better, how about a MP on/off keystroke shortcut like CMD-OPT-;-M or something. Any coders want to take that one on?

I love it. But, yeah, it took me a few minutes to figure out that I needed to be in the layer window, as Dave mentioned.
When I notice it being stubborn – i.e. it can’t seem to identify the edge I’m highlighting — I make sure I put both green strokes and red strokes in there. I’ll go back a forth a few times, but eventually, it cleans up, even if it doesn’t understand what I’m differentiating. I think the key is to make sure you don’t cancel out your “include” strokes with your “exclude” strokes.
For example, I needed to extract a moving, blurry hand. First, I quickly “green stroke” the basic hand to see how it does. Then I switch and “red stroke” the places that it thought were hand but weren’t. Then, as I get into those blurry fingers that it’s still confused by, I keep going back and forth, green, then red, to define my “include”, and then my “exclude” lines. The more you do it, the more it builds up a map of what you want. Where it lacks your input, it guesses, but where you have many strokes, it follows them. It’s a bit weird because it’s like painting with invisible yes/no paint. It’s taking my strokes, then guessing at the parts between them. So if I paint a green right up next to a red, it “should” put it’s edge right between them, because I’ve taken all of the guess-work out of that spot.
Then, I advance a few frames to an obviously wrong frame, and do it again. Roto will take your input for those frames and try to interpret the inbetweens as well, so don’t go frame-by-frame at first. Let it try to figure it out with a few key frames you have. So I’ll do frame 6, then frame 12, then 18, then go back and do frame 9, then frame 15, and keep focusing down until I’ve got it the way I want.

Also, in defense of Todd’s answer, he’s also correct with this quick fix:–Select all layers starting with the bottom one (click bottom one, then shift-click top one)
–Cut layers (CMD-X)
–Paste layers (CMD-V)Viola. They’re all back again, but in the opposite order.

I hate using the graph editor, so I’m in the habit of quickly hitting CMD-SHIFT-K (mac) to adjust the keyframe velocity. I often change the “influence” from it’s default 33.3% to 60% for a snappier move.
Now, if ANYONE can tell me how I can adjust the default to already be 60%, I will be forever grateful. I’ve combed that 6.0 pref file, and haven’t found anything related*.

Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately, they all seem only relevant to not hearing audio. I’m having no trouble with hearing or manipulating audio, except that it isn’t making the meter move.
Is there an audio preference that may be corrupt that I could trash? Perhaps I should just make a backup of my prefs and try deleting the pref file?

I’d try a luma matte or a difference matte first, but either way I’d be making a pot of coffee to go with my evening. I feel your pain. It doesn’t matter how many people suggest better pre-production–we’re usually lucky if we know the thought process before it gets to post. 🙂
