  • reorder / resequence layers in timeline?

Posted by Greg Neumayer on August 15, 2007 at 10:20 pm

I’ve got a numbered series of clips that I’m dragging into a single timeline. They understandably come in 1,2,3,… on down. But, like many people, I like to work from the bottom up in my timeline. Is there an easy way to just flip my layer order so that my first clip is at the bottom of the list?

Seems like a good feature to sit beside “sequence layers” in the right-click menu.

    Thanks,
    Greg

click and drag starting from the bottom.
or shift click starting from the bottom to the top.

    LOL. Thanks Todd.

Perhaps I wasn’t clear enough. I’m familiar with AE.
I’m looking for a script or a feature I’m missing to reorder many (50-200) layers so that I DON’T have to do it by hand.

For the archive, here’s how to reverse the layer order.

In CS3 (if not v7 as well), select:

Thanks for posting this, Greg. Yeah, it’s a few years later, but I still found your tip useful.

    No problem.
Also, in defense of Todd’s answer, he’s also correct with this quick fix:

–Select all layers starting with the bottom one (click bottom one, then shift-click top one)
    –Cut layers (CMD-X)
    –Paste layers (CMD-V)

Viola. They’re all back again, but in the opposite order.
