Initializing background processes with each ram preview normal?
This is an issue that has been annoying me for awhile with CS6. Every time I ram preview, I get the “initializing background processes” message in the info window and have to wait for 15 seconds or so for the preview to start. I don’t want to disable multiprocessing as its really speeding up my previews once they get going, but the slow to start is becoming a pain. My memory of older versions of AE was that it did the initialization once on the first preview, then after that ram previews were much faster to start. This doesn’t seem to be the case for me anymore. If I have made any changes, it also autosaves my project which adds another few seconds to the preview. I’m on an 8 core mac pro with 20 GB of memory. I am devoting 3GB per background CPU with “actual CPUs to be used” = 3. Is this behavior normal? Do I have something slightly wrong with my installation? Is there something I can do (besides disabling multiprocessing) to speed this up?
Thanks,
-Matt
