Well, I’m glad it gets “better”, in some sense. Are there any tips and tricks to minimizing this? What’s it doing? The only correlation I’ve found is that bigger projects suffer more.

Great job to Gareth and his mates.
We did a project for Animal Planet that needed a “handdrawn” look, so we scanned our art, then animated it by overlaying a effect layer of Turbulent displacement and Frame Rate (at a low rate, like 8fps).
Might give you some of that look in a bit less time.

I’m not explicitly having a Knoll crash, but AE is unexpectedly quitting during rendering, and in the “Send to Apple” report, there are a whole bunch of Knoll Lens flare lines near the top of the code. Does this mean my problem is with Knoll?
Also noteworthy, this is only happening in 16 bit.
I’m currently using 2.5.1, hoping that the move to .2 might solve my problems.-Greg

Correction: The program was called “The CALL of the entrepreneur” by Coldwater Media (https://coldwatermedia.com/)

LOL. True. Although what would you accomplish with 10 years?…. (why do I still keep my box?)

I can’t nose around when I’m angry!
Ok, agreed. I found your quote in the “about 3D Channel Effects”.
Am I correct in assuming that my second question’s answer is a big “no”, since AE doesn’t seem to render to any of the specified 3D formats? Is it also impossible to extract a greyscale depthmap from the 3D space in AE? I looked for plugs that might do that, but they all seem oriented to import, not export.

Wow. So, I imagine it also saves properly formatted layers back out to the movie file? I’m having a hard time imagining it really useful. Is the target audience people who rarely need to work with video, or are they offering something the mainly After Effects user can’t do? Any AE pros here have the “How did I ever live without this!?” experience?

Thanks Danny. That wasn’t new to me, but I’m sure it’s helpful.
However, I was just (a little off-topic, admittedly) trying to decipher this specific cross-grade offer from Red Giant. It gives the price, but I can’t find the qualifying requirements.

LOL. Dave’s right. You could try an evolving fractal noise, with a moving greyscale boot as your displacement map for your object, but it’s never going to create the eddies and curls you get from the complex fluid simulation from the stock library of ‘God’s-green-earth.’ 🙂
