Well, Photoshop doesn’t do movies. It does still images.
If you’re trying to save out a still of your video, just render a frame (or sequence) to the psd format. You should be able to open any frame of an image sequence render (like psd, tif, tga, etc.) in PSD, just not “movie” formats that encapsulate the entire movie into one file (avi, mov, mpeg).

On Red Giant’s website there is a regular price and a cross-grade price, but I can’t figure out what qualifies as a cross-grade.

Thanks Kevin. I’m a noob at Rosetta. In fact, I don’t know what it is, save that it sounds like a PPC emulator from your post. So, are you saying I should switch AE to Rosetta mode temporarily, try to extract/save those files, then switch back out of Rosetta back to AE Intel mode?

Key Correct Pro looks great, but I can’t tell what qualifies for the cross-grade price. Do you know?

Kevin, I hope you’re right, but I’ve been struggling with this for weeks. Are you (Kevin) running other apps that installed the codec for you? (like FCP.. maybe Avid?)
I’ve had absolutely no luck getting footage in running AE8.0.2 on my Intel Mac, but I was able to see DVCPROHD footage on my non-Intel.
This morning, I came across a blog about Calibrated Software’s codec, which amazingly allowed me to see DVCPRO HD footage. (1080i 60)

I’m not even sure if that addresses your issue, but I’m sure happy to find at least one third-party codec that will start me on my way to being able to say “no problem” to my client’s footage.
Please post if you find other throughput solutions. I’ve wasted a lot of time just trying to understand the whole issue and it looks like there are a lot of facets to it. Here’s another good post related to color issues I’m keeping my eye on:

Well, where’s the fun if we don’t throw a key on it. Here’s what I was able to pull in 10 minutes:

‘course, it needs some holdout on the belt, and trim on the bottom. Pretty scrappy, but if you’re also trying to get a handle on where your mad-skillz collide with your footage quality, this may help you have some perspective. One of the frustrating things when I was learning to key was not knowing where the problem was. Go through the Keylight manual/tutorial. It’s not an effect you can just play with until you understand it. There’s a method.
This was done with a bit of Curves, then Keylight, then some Hue/Sat (to kill the green), then a bit of Color Balance to whiten the highlights a bit.

There may be a way to apply multiple instances of the bulge effect to a series of points, but that’s beyond my ‘off-the-top-of-my-head’ skills.
However, if that doesn’t pan out, you could always try faking it a bit by precomping your 3D bubble layer, then in your new comp have the precomp’d bubbles, your background, and a duplicate layer of your precomp that you’ve turned into a greyscale image*. Then, you could add a displacement map to the bubble layer (specifying your greyscale version as your distortion layer), turn off visibility of the greyscale version, and maybe add a slight bit of compound blur to your bubble layer as well if desired. It’s not accurate, but I guess neither was bulge. As long as it looks good…

*You don’t really need to make it greyscale, but it may help you visualize what will affect the distortion. Add adjustments to it until it has enough grey range to make your distortion work. (contrast, curves, etc. Whatever works.)
