I was excited to find a performance improvement when I stepped up to CS4, but then hold on! What’s this?!

    Background Process Status, Loading Projects…

This message appears when I start a RAM preview and lasts for a good 30 seconds before even rendering the first frame.
What is it? How can I optimize?

    Thanks,
    Greg

    Other useful info:
Project: Many clips (~100) utilizing differing frame rates of footage, including DVCProHD codec
Computer: Pro Mac, dual quad core, ATI gfx card, 12 GB RAM
Prefs in AE set to defaults.

Well, I’m glad it gets “better”, in some sense. Are there any tips and tricks to minimizing this? What’s it doing? The only correlation I’ve found is that bigger projects suffer more.

It seems that it happens any time a new preview is invoked.
Now its got my beach ball spinning… not responding- force quit… thank goodness for auto save.
    Gonna try changing multiprocessing settings.
    That works!

    Thank You
