I’m currently using the Digital Anarchy Transcriptive plugin and I’ll say it’s a giant leap forward in the transcription world.

The plugin works in tandem with two voice recognition engines that are web-based. The main one is speechmatics and so far the accuracy rate for the interviews I’ve tried is about 90%. And the cost is so low to make use of their voice recognition software that there will eventually be no need for human transcription services in the very near future.

For me the NLE doesn’t consciously play into my editing technique.

While the technology keeps changing and evolving, my approach to editing has remained primarily the same since I was taught as an assistant.

I was taught the method of first creating a solid a-roll with a music bed and then filling in b-roll imagery, sound design, and graphics afterwords.

I think the constant improvements in NLE technology allow me to better organize material which in turn leads me to create more effective pieces. But I don’t consciously change my editing approach or method based on any NLE features.

I would pass on using Premiere for open captions altogether. Premiere has a very weak captions interface.

Instead, use amara.org. Create your open captions on their site, export a caption file, import that file into a program like Submerge (osx) and voila, you have an open captioned video.

I’ve worked with Osmo footage and noticed a fair amount of unacceptable artifacting as well.

I’ve worked with a variety of drone footage and I have no need for any clip labeling. With drone footage the easiest way to manage it is to simply throw all of the drone clips into a timeline and then scrub through it and mark the good shots. It’s quicker than looking through shot notes of any kind.

send the vimeo link to your person and they can view the video in their browser or download it to their computer.
