I work with a lot of mxf media and have no performance issues with it but I also have a more powerful graphics card ( GTX 970).

I think your graphics card in the second mac isn’t powerful enough for mxf.

  • Rainer, I know it’s a bit of a unique approach and that’s why I posted my setup.

The power supply problem I was referring to was the power supply inside of my PC. I had to replace that power supply.
My entire system is on an APC UPS.

[Duke Sweden] ” I have never seen anyone post on this board complaining that their computer was working flawlessly, so I guess I’m in good company.”

It’s certainly true that there’s always a few issues to deal with on any edit system. For comparison though, I’m also working on a Windows 10 PC and using the latest CC. The one difference being that it’s custom built. My system includes an i7-5820k processor and Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 GPU. I’ve never encountered any issues with Media Encoder or any hiccups with Premiere recognizing CUDA.

I also think Chris is on the right track in relation to tracing the source of your problems. Plugins tend to be the culprits when there’s no clear reason for these errors to pop up.

Sounds like you need to upgrade your computer components.

There’s no issues with playback on either source or program side for a system with a graphics card and cpu that meet the Premiere requirements.

You’ve touched on the number one frustration that I have with Premiere. Not only do LUT’s get linked to clips based on their numerical placement within their respective LUT folder which seems completely wrong but if you share a project with another editor it’s almost impossible to maintain the LUT’s due to each Premiere system having it’s own LUT folder organization.

In addition, the process of re-attaching LUT’s to clips through the media linking process is also riddled with inefficiencies.

There needs to be an overhaul of the LUT organization within Premiere but I guess it’ll require more people complaining about it to get traction.

August 5, 2017 at 6:32 pm in reply to: So that whole VR thing … how’s that coming along?

Thanks for posting the article. The technological advancements that sometimes appear to be game changers in our industry , i.e., 3D, 360, VR, etc are usually non-starters. Personally I think these things haven’t fully taken hold because they interfere with our suspension of disbelief while viewing. 360 video seems to be the largest violator in that it requires a viewer to actively move through the imagery.

The one sad thing is the potential phasing out of assistant editors. Apprenticeship remains a great way to learn editing and other production skills but perhaps other avenues for learning the craft will emerge.

I agree with Oliver that the workflow for creating pieces is exactly the same in FCPX as PP or any other NLE. It’s just a matter of getting used to the FCPX layout and unique feature set.

[Bill Davis] “As an X editor – I see TONS of X content from all over the world.

In order to see stuff on Premiere or AVID – I have to actively seek it out via effort.”

Bill, I’d like some of what you’re smoking.

Wikipedia lists seven tv shows cut on FCPX since 2012. I’m sure that list isn’t complete or up to date but at the same time it certainly doesn’t lead one to think that it’s trending upward within the tv or film industry.
