On this point I can agree with Bill. Music selects for video pieces seems to always engender a lot of differing opinions from clients. It’s also an area of post production that goes through the most revisions.

Instead of looking at it as a negative, maybe you can look at it as an opportunity for a serendipitous moment in the editing process. You’ll be surprised at how easy it is to swap music selects.

And yes, watermarked tracks make the whole music selects process even easier since no money has been spent. All you have to do is swap out for another track.

Duke, I’m guessing your graphics card is the weak link in your system. Your 1050ti has 768 cuda cores. I have the 970 (1664 cuda cores) in my system and I have no issue with 10bit 4k compressed playback.

I’d suggest you run a gpu tester (gpu-z.2.2.0) and run it while playing back your 4k in premiere to see exactly how your card performs.

My first approach would be to attempt an xml export of the main timeline in fcp7 and then attmpt to rebuild in Premiere. I have an older mbp that still has fcp7.

An alternative to that time consuming process would be to attempt to work from a pro-res master of the project instead.

Either way it’s going to require re-constituting and re-building and so it really would depend on the client budget for dealing with such an old project.

But realistically, how relevant is a video made 5-10 years ago going to be? Most likely a client is going to want to update that project with new content so that the product they put to the world out doesn’t look old or dated.

I gotta agree. FCP7 is simply ancient and so there’s no need for any company to maintain any level of support for it.

If the edit machine is fast, it should only take a few minutes to create preview renders.

However, if the machine is on the old side, the render process could take quite a lot of time and therefore it may be justified to send you a review copy later.
