Thanks for stating this. The closed Apple architecture has become quite problematic for those of us who are dealing with a wide variety of source footage and an equally wide variety of project needs. It’s become essential to easily import/export between Resolve and Pro-tools as well as After Effects. These three programs are the industry standard for Color, Sound and motion graphics and so ease of use is what it’s all about.

I can’t speak to the Hackintosh builds but I definitely saved a significant amount of money custom building a PC instead of waiting for the new imac pro and paying the Apple premium.

To each his own but forums like the Cow and Adobe Hardware make researching very easy so it’s not really a burden.

While it’s true that custom building your own edit system will require more time initially, the amount of time required to maintain a custom build is no more than any turn-key computer and that’s especially true now that hardware upgrade cycles are further apart than in the past.

you have a good computer but you have virtually no RAM. Bump your RAM up to 32 gigs and that computer will be plenty fast for Premiere.

fair enough. If by chance you wanted to spend less on your upgrade down the road and, there are plenty of PC configurations that will allow for a seamless Red 4k workflow and the pro res issue seems to be waning since DNxHD is an equal or superior master delivery format.

you’re right, your computer doesn’t have enough power so the simple solution is to either transcode to pro-res or DNxHD or make proxies.
