you can right click on any clip in a Premiere bin and select properties to see the details.

To see if it’s a bottleneck issue I’d suggest you download the AJA System Test. Go to the AJA website and it’s a free download. It’ll allow you to see what kind of read/write speeds you’re getting.

“Create Multi cam sync sequence” should be used for any and all syncing in Premiere. The merged clips option should never be used.

If you don’t have matching timecode with your media then simply select sync by audio. The multi cam sync function in Premiere works very well. I’ve yet to come across a clip that won’t sync.

For future proofing, I’d recommend that you create a folder called “old” inside your sequence folder and whenever you duplicate your sequence put the previous one in that folder. This habit prevents you from deleting any sequences. However, it doesn’t take care of your problem of not knowing which project it lives in.

That seems odd. Since the title tool has been overhauled and is now part of the Essential graphics panel it works quite well and has no lag issues at all. If you’re using the legacy title tool abandon it and switch to the Essential graphics panel.

For captions and transcription I’d highly recommend the plugin Transcriptive from Digital Anarchy. You can create the transcript from a finished video in about 5mins. And then it’s just a matter of creating the captions from that transcript.

What codec is your UHD footage? If it’s UHD compressed in H264 then that will greatly throttle performance.

But your proxy creation time is also odd. Your computer is beefy enough to allow for fast transcoding. It should not take 10mins to transcode 1min of UHD 4K. A more normal time would be around 2mins.

The specs on your system show a Thunderbolt 3 connection. Do you have a TB3 drive to compare thruput speed with your USB3 drive?

You also could simply bring your audio into Audition which would give you a lot more options.

Sluggish 4k playback is often connected to a RAM deficiency. Have you opened task manager and monitored your RAM usage during playback?

16 gigs of RAM is the bare minimum for 4k and so it’s not surprising that you’d run into sluggish playback.

If you’re using a USB3 drive as your media drive that’s also problematic. Do you have TB3 on that laptop? If so, I’d put that media on a Samsung T5 drive which would give you much better thruput.

I’d also recommend that you move your cache off of the C drive and onto your media drive.
