I don’t know if this is useful information or not, but with Final Cut and my DecklinkSP card some still images and titles have a slight shift when I initially render my timeline (Command+R), but there is yet a second render for certain stills and/or text. It is Ctrl+R. You’ll have realtime playback and video will look fine without this additional render, but that pixel shift on my SDI monitor will take place unless I do the second render.
This, as I understand it, is not a Blackmagic issue, but rather goes back to what tasks are given to what (Final Cut or Blackmagic) as indicated in your System Settings Menu. You can change these.
If I have misunderstood your issues, or if my system is nothing like yours, I apologize. It took me a while to figure out how to correct this.

November 20, 2008 at 10:17 pm in reply to: Is G-RAID 320 mini good enough for SD?

So as a follow-up to this post, if I picked up some internal SATA drives and placed them within my Mac (I know this isn’t the preferred way, but I need a bridge to fill this time/money gap) and raided them, could I expect to be just as successful as external Firewire 800 mini-RAID? This install procedure is new to me, and if anyone could point me to a suggested drive list and RAID striping procedure, I’d be grateful. My son is a Geek Squad manager, so I know he can help to some degree.
    Thanks!

That was the most useful hint I’ve been given all day. My captures with Blackmagic Extreme are 20.2 MB/s 4.2.2 8 bit uncompressed (according to these properties). Thanks! Thanks everyone for your counsel and wisdom.

Thanks for your response. This is for a permanent installation. It is for a large church auditorium (4,000 seats). I have four Shure UHF diversity systems for body pack mics (Countryman ear mics) in place — had ’em for 10 years — and 8 Sennheiser handheld systems. I like the higher power possibilities with the Lectrosonics; I have no experience with them and don’t know anyone who does. I appreciate your insights.

Thanks for the reply. We stream audio and video as well as provide audio Podcasts and CD distribution for those not quite as tech savvy. Lectrosonics is the brand that I felt would be recommended, although I have only today gotten very deep into their equipment line. I appreciate your mention of them as this adds weight to what I’m beginning to learn.

January 28, 2008 at 7:05 pm in reply to: Can I downgrade from QT 7.4 to 7.2?

I’d love to be able to upgrade from 4.5. I have two edit desks and the OTHER one is not the newest FCP release, but the one before that. I work for a church, and video isn’t crucial here or at the forefront of everyone’s thinking, so I wait and I wait. It’s a great idea, though!

Thanks, all. I was just made aware of this link, but it was too late. https://www.macnn.com/articles/08/01/26/red.quicktime.74.issues/

I suppose that I’ll try to go back to 10.3.9 and find QT 7.2 unless somebody has a better idea.

May 23, 2007 at 4:46 pm in reply to: Making jpeg brochure photos look crisp

Among other suggestions that others will have, you have way too much pixel information that FCP has to throw away but is costing you rendering resources in the process. Find some way to down-rez these pics outside of FCP. Do it in Photoshop or if you don’t have P’shop, download and install the open source Gimp Shop (Google for it) and bring pics down to a useable size that you can still pan (if that’s your plan).

Be sure that you render JPEGs with Shift+R beyond the normal rendering Command+R.

They suggest to repair permissions — that was their only suggestion. I tried that and it didn’t help, so I took the next step. Thanks.

  • Chris – I am waiting for Ciprico to open in California, and trying to make the best use of the time this morning. On my older 1.8 TB MediaVault the terminators glow green. On the 2.5 TB MediaVault they are glowing amber. They are original equipment (just two months old) and I need to find out if that could be the source (or indicator) of my problem. I have removed and retightened everything, but will do it again just in case. How about your terminators?
