My guess is that they think Time Machine is a suitable form of backup, which I don’t disagree with. The old FCP way with literally hundreds of old project files floating around was annoying. It would be nice to have an interface within the app that allows you to experiment with a cut but have a snapshot that you can always revert to. So maybe you’re right about the CurrentVersion thing being a sign of something like that to come.
In general, it is a bad thing to unplug a hard drive from a Mac while it is in the process of reading or writing to the drive. So, if you accidentally unplug a hard drive without unmounting it in the Finder, you should use Disk Utility to see if its okay.

Sounds like your drive got corrupted. Try Disk Utility.

Why would an off-line picture editor need to have OMF export anyway? Seems to me that it would be easiest for everyone if they hand off the whole project to the audio pro and audio pro uses their copy of OMF export to export things the way they think best. $500 doesn’t seem like a big expense if you are an audio pro and will use something like that a lot.
When I finish somebody’s project in a system like Smoke, it is usually ideal to have the off-line project to export from and/or refer to.

Is there something wrong with the Automatic Duck OMF export tool?

Its also possible that Motion can stabilize it with a 2D track like the other compositing programs I mentioned. I just haven’t used Motion so I don’t know if you can manually track something and use that as stabilization data like in the others.
-
Well, first thing you should try is turning down the scale and rotation sliders all the way in the stabilization settings.
But my guess is that this is not going to be stabilized in FCP. While it is obvious to you that the camera is a locked off shot of someone against a green background, but there’s probably no features for FCP to track and figure out what the movement is supposed to be. You’ll probably have to do a 2D track of a tracking marker or something in your frame that is still in AE, Nuke, Smoke, etc… -
I have to say that FCPX feels pretty stable to me (granted my main apps are Smoke on Mac and Nuke, which are both very crash prone so FCPX feels rock solid in comparison). If you’re really getting an inordinate number of crashes, it could be that your CPU or GPU are overheating or some other hardware or OS related issue. I know that doesn’t help your situation but it might be worth figuring out a way to install a clean version of the OS and FCPX on a separate drive and see if there’s still an issue.

August 24, 2011 at 8:47 pm in reply to: slip visuals and connected audio moving when I dont want it toI second Tom said: Make the music track your primary storyline. I am working on a music video in FCPX at the moment and it sort of upset me at first that I couldn’t edit the “normal” way but after trying it out with the audio as the primary storyline for a little while, it actually made quite a bit of sense to do it that way. You’ll probably want to make your picture clips into a secondary storyline attached to the music so you can trim, transition, etc.
On Edit: I just realized Tom said something totally different. 😉
So, I suggest using your music as primary – perhaps in a compound clip.

August 23, 2011 at 5:48 pm in reply to: Can you add a keyword to a clip once it is in the timeline?Well, I guess I should have just read Apple’s FCPX FAQ because it says:
“Does Final Cut Pro X allow you to assign audio tracks for export?
Not yet. An update this summer will allow you to use metadata tags to categorize your audio clips by type and export them directly from Final Cut Pro X.” -
Did you look at your audio levels in FCP X before you exported? You can’t really base the audio on how loud it sounds out of the speaker. You want to adjust the audio levels in the timeline so that the levels on the audio meter reach the mid-top portion of the meter without going all the way to the top.
There is also an automatic loudness function in the Audio Enhancements section. That might magically fix this problem for you.
