I have VLC (the latest version), and it will not play MXF files. It crashes VLC.

I am receiving a file in MPEG format with a separate SCC file. I can get Vegas to add the SCC file to the time line, and I can see the CC in the preview monitor. I render it out as an MXF file, and using Media Info software, I can see the CC is there. Since I cannot play the MXF file on my computer, I have been reloading it into Vegas, and it shows CC but it does not play out on the Preview monitor. I have also loaded the file into my On Air server, and the server plays the file, but with no CC.

Thanks. I know I am rehashing this. But the captioning in the MXF file just does not seem right, and does not seem to work. Again this is for broadcast television, so the CC needs to be correct and in the correct line. I will try an MPEG render to see what happens.

Downloaded the update, and that fixed the CC problem within Vegas. Thanks.

Ran “Promote media closed captioning”. Now the CC only shows up when I scrub the file. (On both the original and the rendered file). If I run it in real time, nothing shows up in preview. Also when I run the file thru my on air server, it also does not display CC. Does that need to be turned on when rendering the file?

It turns out you are correct. They can except MXF format. I will be trying that. thanks.

Thanks for the info. However, I need to render either to MOV or MPEG2. I have noticed that Vegas has trouble rendering to MPEG2 in 1080i when you try to do 20mbytes for a bit rate. Any suggestions on that?

Thanks for the answer. I guess I missed the previous one. Is there a format that Vegas will render to that will retain the CC? Thanks.

Finally able to get back to this problem. I have a commercial that I loaded in Vegas, and it shows the captioning tags on the time line. However, the captions do not show up in preview. I have selected CC1 on the drop down in the preview monitor. Also when I render it out to an MOV, the captions are not there. Any help?

VLC does show the captioning, however Vegas version 12 and version 13 do not show the captioning. The video I am worried about is a 1/2 hour show. I have segmented it and rendered some segments, and after the render, there is no longer any CC. It would be difficult to link to the file as it is quite large. I will see if I can find something smaller that I can link to. If may be next week before I get back to this.
