Yes. When you render to XDCAM HD/XDCAM HD422 MXF formats, captioning markers are embedded in the media file. Also when you render to MPEG-2 format, captioning markers are encoded in ATSC format. Those are the only two formats that support embedded closed caption with Vegas Pro. I would use Sony MXF HD422 1080p 50Mbps for broadcast delivery.

December 22, 2015 at 10:25 pmThanks for the info. However, I need to render either to MOV or MPEG2. I have noticed that Vegas has trouble rendering to MPEG2 in 1080i when you try to do 20mbytes for a bit rate. Any suggestions on that?

Did the broadcaster give you any specifications? If so, what are they? Are they expecting MPEG2 in a MOV container?

Did you ask them if they can accept MXF format? Sony MXF is MPEG2 @ 50 Mbps which sound like exactly what you need.

Great! You want to render to Sony MXF using the HD422 1920×1080-60i 50 Mbps template. That will retain the closed captions. (of course use 50i, or 24p if that’s more appropriate but you get the idea)
