It’s does work – just tried it however DVCProHD 1080p24, 1080p25, and 1080p30 QuickTime movies didn’t work but all others 1080i30, 1080i25, 720p24,720p25,720p30,720p50, and 720p60 did seem to work

You can lower the decode quality to get better performance if full-quality isn’t RT in PPro. The demo is free to try out – it just has watermarks.

Hi Roberto,

I might be totally off base here but just a quick observation – you stated that your project(timeline?) is DVCProHD 720p60 and you’re editing DVCProHD 720p24 quicktime movies. The project is 30 minutes in length but only exports out to 12 minutes for a 720p24 file – the math on those numbers 12/30 = .4 is very similar to 24/60 = .4 , is there some sort of framerate converion FCP is doing?

Shane/Jeremy – am I way off base with this logic?

Hi Sean,

My plugin allows FCP to import MXF (including XDCAM HD – with timecode and audio) – in the current plugin however; importing tons of XDCAM HD MXF files into FCP can take a bit of time (cause of the LongGop MPEG2 structure) – but I plan on addressing this in the next build.

I haven’t used Automatic Duck before so I don’t know how/if it would sync-up but I would think with importing the native XDCAM HD MXF files (which would include timecode) then it might be possible.

Hey Gary,

I haven’t tried it out with every AVID MXF format but the ones I’ve tried so far – NTSC DV25 and NTSC IMX work fine, and customers have tried the plugin with other AVID MXF formats that worked as well. The audio though won’t be auto-linked to the video like the current workflow with P2 MXF files but I plan on working on all of this more in the next few weeks.

Well it won’t auto-find the audio P2 MXF Files if the MXF Files are not in the original P2 structure, but even if iMovie moves the selected video MXF files to a project folder – my plugin will still open the original video MXF files even without the P2 Folder Structure intact (with timecode support even since it’s present in the MXF file – although I don’t think iMovie uses timecode). And a user could still open up the Audio MXF files as well without the original P2 folder structure.

I haven’t tested a workflow with iMovie out yet Scott, but I will when I get a chance or you’re more than welcome to email me Scott with your findings or post them.

As the website states:

“Calibrated{Q} XD Decode is a multi-threaded XD QuickTime Codec(Decode Only) that enables you to view QuickTime XDCAM and HDV Movies in QuickTime Player and other 3rd party applications that support QuickTime.”

So yes, it is a QuickTime Codec (Decode Only) that enables users to decode .MOV files that are encoded with the different Apple XDCAM/HDV formats. So QuickTime Player or any 3rd party application that supports QuickTime would be able to open and use the Apple XDCAM/HDV .MOV files. I added some new language to the website to make it clear this is for MOV files only not MP4 files.

And yes, it is not compatible with FCS installed due to the fact that Apple installs its own XDCAM/HDV codec with FCP.
