FYI – I also offer a DV50 QuickTime Decode codec for Windows and also a DVCProHD QuickTime Decode codec for OSX and Windows – so its not just an Apple only thing anymore on OSX.

Also – PProCS4 ( OSX and Windows )can import DVCProHD QuickTime Movies (except for 1080p24,1080p25 and 1080p30) without having a DVCProHD QuickTime codec installed. I havent tried DV50 QuickTime Movies – but I’d assumed they would work too without a QuickTime codec installed.

Playback should be in RT in QuickTime PLayer – however you might need to adjust the decode quality to improve playback performance for editing in PPro on the Mac. There’s a free demo you can download that has watermarks to try out to see if it fits your workflow.

And just FYI – PPro CS4 can import Apple QuickTime DVCProHD (except for 1080p25, 1080p24 and 1080p30 Apple DVCProHD QuickTime movies) and playback in RT.

Avid uses their own DVCProHD codec – while technically the same compression – it uses different fourcc’s(compression codec identifier) than the Apple QuickTime codec and also stores same extra properties than the Apple QuickTime Codec.

Hi,

Did you install a demo of my codec – Calibrated{Q} XD Decode? This is a QuickTime codec to view XDCAM HD, HDV, and XDCAM EX QuickTime movies on computers without FCP installed.

It will be installed as /Library/QuickTime/CalibratedXDCodec.component. What you describe is the watermark from the 1.0.0 version.

If you delete that file and restart – then you should be fine.

Just reading thru your post but when you say “large grey boxes” in the DVCProHD video – did you download our Calibrated{Q} DVCProHD Decode for OSX? The watermark for the demo version is gray rectangles over the video. In the Library/QuickTime folder there would be a CalibratedDVHDCodec.component.

Hi Chris,

There’s nothing to apply on your end per se – its’ a QuickTime Codec that can decode XDCAM HD, XDCAM EX, and HDV QuickTime .MOV files. So if you used XDCAM Transfer to create .MOV files from XDCAM HD MXF or XDCAM EX MP4 files then this QuickTime Codec would enable you to use the XDCAM HD/EX/HDV .MOV files with applications that support QuickTime on PC or Mac computers without FCP.

And it’s not only for client review – with the codec you can now hand off XDCAM HD/EX/HDV QuickTime Movies to other people in your post-production pipeline that don’t have FCP.

You can also use the codec with my Calibrated{Q} MXF Import plugin to turn QuickTime Player into a viewer for XDCAM HD MXF files.

Hi Chris,

I have a IMX QT Windows Decode codec here – it supports decompressing to ‘2vuy’ 8-bit YUV422 so it probably wouldnt be too hard for BM or AJA to support it but I havent talked with them about it.
