Convert DVCPROHD files back to MXF
Is there a way to convert DVCPROHD files back to MXF files as they exist on a p2 card so that they can be imported into a program like Adobe Premiere? We captured DVCPROHD files as Quicktimes but we can’t play them in Adobe Premiere. The Raylight software seems to slow the system down.
Any ideas?

Adobe Premiere on a PC.

Any particular reason why it needs to go to Premiere on a PC? I’d suggest finishing the edit on FCP and then using media manager to create a new version of the project with QuickTime animation codec files- which will be usable on the PC and will preserve image quality. Bouncing back to MXF is a loss of quality.

Well the client really wants to edit on their Adobe Premiere system. We have advised buying FCP to make their lives easier but alas they do not want to.

Then you need to go back to the original backups you made from the P2 cards and hand those over. Or do what I suggested above and convert all takes to the Animation codec. Or get MXF4QT and export back to MXF:

I have a Windows QuickTime DVCProHD Decode Codec that you can try out as well:

You can lower the decode quality to get better performance if full-quality isn’t RT in PPro. The demo is free to try out – it just has watermarks.

Really- on a PC? On a Mac that’s been no problem with Premiere as it’s supported via QuickTime in OSX, but not in the PC as far as I know.

Install CS4 and QuickTime… works fine

It’s does work – just tried it however DVCProHD 1080p24, 1080p25, and 1080p30 QuickTime movies didn’t work but all others 1080i30, 1080i25, 720p24,720p25,720p30,720p50, and 720p60 did seem to work
