If this works well on a mac, why not just give them the Quicktime files the way they are.? All I do is take the shooter’s files and import them into FCP and it work perfectly.

I don’t understand why I should bother to drag each of about 400 clips to a timeline to export them as Michael suggests

Guys, you bring up good points. I’ll do that in the future.

But I never turn over my editing to another party. I always edit in FCP. In this case I’m refusing to edit for this client any longer, and I’ve offered them the footage to take elsewhere.

So again I can give them this free converter ling to convert quicktime to MXF?

    Thanks Rafael,

Like I said I don’t have any files besides the quicktime files. So would I just let these folks know they may need to get calibrated software?

    Michael,

Thanks for your observation, but what I really need is advice

My shooter gives me the re-wrapped the files as Quicktimes. So again I’m just trying to head off any problems with the next production company not being able to work with the files.

Is there anything I should tell them if they use another editing platform besides FCP?

    Guys, I don’t have FCS3. I’m on FCP 6.0.5. The file is SD 4:3

  • As a “one man band” working out of a home office, I often discourage a meeting in person unless I
pre-qualify them. Normally I get as much information as possible from them and then tell them I’ll send you a preliminary proposal/quote for their project. Once they see the quote I’ll meet with them if they are still interested.

I’m not going to meet them if they think a 3 day shoot and 4 day edit is going to be say…$2,000.

Of course you charge them for pre-production meetings. But when it’s more informational in nature, I prefer phone calls. You can tell pretty quickly if this potential client is worth meeting with.

You need to export from FCP to compressor and from Compressor to DVD SP. Create a DVD in DVD SP.

Video quality will be MUCH higher through streamclip than an analog cable.
Just make sure you have the write codec selected for the timeline sequence you’re editing in.

Yep, I’d rather not take all of my footage into compressor. Thanks Alan and David for your advice. I’m gonna use David’s advice here since I can break the takes up fairly easily. It’s all talking heads and PPT.

    Thanks again.
