In the Time Controls window, click the arrow in its upper left corner and choose Previews Favor Active Camera.

Keylight can only key out primary colors such as blue or green. For black or white use the Extract Effect.

When you’re working in AE you almost always want to work deinterlaced. So for you, you should have picked “lower-field first” in the interpretation dialogue.

Why you’re welcome. I should mention though that they can get a bit long-winded… If you follow along with the project files and stick with it though it will be well worth the effort.

I created a tutorial on how to do this a while back available here.

You need to enter your product key for the Cycore Effects (what version of AE are you running?) They come pre-installed with CS3, so I’m guessing you’re on an older version. The green X will continue to render until you enter your product key.

Try going to Edit–>Purge–>All. If that does not work, try turning off Enable Disk Caching in the preferences (Edit–>Preferences–>Memory & Cache).

I would look into some of the included distortion effects for something like this (without creating the entire thing in a 3D program). Perhaps playing around with the AE Puppet Tool would give you some results you’re looking for.

Nothing beats Trish & Chris Meyer’s books on After Effects. Check out Creating Motion Graphics with After Effects. It’s a great place to start for beginners and intermediate level-users; it provides a very thorough explanation of the entire program.
