    Hi
Im new to the special effects side of Filmmaking, yet understand that todays media can effectively use this area to enhance their production and add value.
I wanted to know from you more experienced pro’s if I can show a breathing effect effect in an inanimate object on a short project Im working on and how to do it.
I want to show an object such as a Tree or say a post box take one breath showing just the rising and falling of its imaginary chest and whether this can be done in after effects.

Hope you all can help me.

    Gavin

I would look into some of the included distortion effects for something like this (without creating the entire thing in a 3D program). Perhaps playing around with the AE Puppet Tool would give you some results you’re looking for.

I did this in about a minute using just the Bulge Effect and looping the change. Should be pretty easy to do with that. You could also do some worth with Mesh Warp if you want to go more detailed and controlled.

I hope that helps in some way.
