The display is working fine, other than as a 3rd monitor in Premiere. As I said, it works sometimes but has been intermittent since upgrading to Premiere 13.1.2.

I’m running Premiere 13.1.2 on a brand new MacBook Pro with the Radeon Pro Vega 20 4 GB video card and a Caldigit T3 dock and am having real trouble getting consistent playback on my third monitor.

Premiere keeps unchecking the box for video playback on the third monitor.

Sometimes it works fine, others no bueno. I’ve tried making sure the monitors are on different Thunderbolt Ports, even separate from my RAID but it’s still finicky.

Anyone have any experience with this?

  • Interesting John – good sleuthing! Like you say, not a perfect solution moving the proxy folder but at least it works!

Are your proxies on a RAID? Did moving the project affect performance at all – I’ve always thought the project file should be kept on the on system SSD, while keeping the media on my RAID but I’ve never really noticed anything that that set up particularly benefits… **I guess “not crashing” is a non-noticeable benefit though ☺

Thanks for sharing the work around.

I’m with ya as well! Any progress on this one since you submitted the req?

As this is the first hit that google brings up, I thought I’d note – Premiere now has an option to do this under the “Markers” menu – “copy paste includes sequence markers”

Once you’ve imported, renamed and selected all the clips in the bin, it’ll “batch” sync them all, no?

  • Saving at close tends to work for me but I’ve definitely had this problem on previous projects. Sometimes different sets of proxies needed to be relinked at each start up.

I thought it might be a case of similarly named clips in different folders but never really got to the bottom of it – so I’m following along.

Great link Mimi – thanks. Super useful breakdown of proxy/syncing workflow!

If anyone’s come across similarly awesome workflows with Premiere – I need to draft a similar breakdown for documentary editing for both my own work and for conducting workshops.

I’ve work with this workflow on a few projects – when you open the project on your “proxy” system and that opening dialogue box asks you to link the footage, I think you can highlight all the high res media and put is as “offline” and then link the proxies, no?

June 26, 2018 at 3:21 pm in reply to: Project File Size Limit?

I’ve worked on a number of doc series (hundreds and hundreds of hours worth of footage) with Premiere now and without fail, the projects get too big, too slow to load and save, never mind trying to work with an assistant and bringing in new footage, selects, assemblies through Media (bane of my existence) Browser.

I’m truly baffled by what causes project files to grow – amount of footage? number of sequences? Stills and graphics? The factors don’t seem to be consistent and I can’t find any authoritative documents on it.

Hearing that warp stabilizer and masks grow the projects is interesting – do people do them in AE and bring them back in as a work around?

Any further discussion is welcome! While there’s so much to like about Premiere, I about to ditch it for trusty Avid when it comes to projects with assistants and more than one editor.
