Proxy workflow with merged clips
Hi there,
I’m about to launch into a feature doc edit in Premiere and want to make sure I’m thinking about my proxy workflow in the correct way. My primary question is about how merged clips function when using a proxy workflow. The producer has created merged clips using the original raw video to connect it with audio recorded externally. Do proxies need to be created & attached prior to merging clips, or can they be created & attached after the fact? Should I anticipate any issues with reconnecting original media down the road when using merged clips & proxies? I want to be sure to avoid any mismatched audio channel issues.

According to this replay from Adobe back in Jan 2017 ( https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2269593 )
“Merged clips are not currently supported for Proxy. Please fill a feature request form.”

You should never be using the merged clip function. Adobe should remove it as a feature. Instead all syncing should be done with Multicam. Merged clips is a destructive action and Multicam is not and so only with Multicam can you match frame back to your original material.

FWIW for those asking, I wound up using the suggestion from this article:

which explains that you must create and attach proxies prior to merging clips. Worked smoothly. -

Perhaps I’ve scanned the page too quick, but I miss the ‘batch’ part if you have to touch each and every clip.
What am I missing here?

Once you’ve imported, renamed and selected all the clips in the bin, it’ll “batch” sync them all, no?

No. You end up with a sequence per clip that you have to open, select tracks and then merge.
For me batch syncing means pointing to video and audio, select the tracks you want as an option, then sync and end up with all clips. NOT touching all clips.
Not a big deal for a few clips, but if you have dozens or hundreds…Bouke
