In the video, I have an Orb for Mars linked to a Null object, then I have a Null object for one of its moons, linked to the first null using expressions and I then attach another orb to that null.

Not a clue, but I’ll bet it’s using the same principal as HTML tables when you have columns with set widths – the last column’s setting are ignored. You’ve got a locked panel, so that’s not going to change as you’ve got an unlocked panel which is flexible.

I’d guess the models folder has installed somewhere you need admin permission to save.

If I remember correctly you get to specify where models are stored during install.

I used to have Shine – but my version was from a previous reseller and didn’t qualify for updates and stopped working.

It’s a shame as it’s a nice effect. Andrew Kramer over at Video Copilot came up with a tutorial that gets pretty close without having to splash out:

Don’t think so. J and K jump the current time indicator to previous and next keyframes, that’s the closest i can think of that might help.

It is a mystery why they appear, but you can reuse a NULL from the project panel, but you do have to reduce their opacity to 0 and shift the anchor back up to 0,0 – that second bit can be important for parenting and expressions.

You’d think/hope a Null would retain its special-ness.

Also adjusting the opacity of a Null created in a comp doesn’t make it visible either.

If you pre-comp your footage with your music, then apply the brush effect to that precomp, you should be able to hear the music in theory, but AE will probably struggle to run the rotobrush and audio in sync.

Try adding CC Tiler to your footage, and drop the effect’s scale. This will give you lots of small versions of the shot.

Then try adding Circle, feathering it quite a bit, then in Blending mode, set it to Stenicl alpha.

Then if you add CC Hex Tile, you can create a series of hexagonal views of the same shot, but the edges are blurry.

Please ignore the fact the photo is Kate Winslet, I’d just been using a meme of her and it was the first thing I had to hand

I think – might be wrong but I think – what you want is Shift Channels. And set the Take Alpha From to Blue channel.

This will make the video use the blue as an Alpha channel. Set that layer above your other footage and set that layer’s Track Matte to Alpha.

Are you trying to use one layer’s blue background, to cut out from another? If so, then it would be better to use Keylight to chromakeying out the background, and use the Track Matte to Alpha to sort the cutout.
