Basically, you’ll need to track the torch that your athlete is holding, then depending on the software you’ve got either:

a) Using footage of fire, apply the track data so that the fire sticks to the top of the torch

b) Using Wondertouch’s particle illusion, copy the position keyframes to the position of a fire emitter. Import the avi back into After Effects and use either unmult or a transfer mode to add it to the top. the benefit of this approach is that the flame will sway and wobble with the torch.

c) I don’t have Trapcode’s Particular, but it also does fire and it;s position can also be keyframed to the top of your torch.

ah i got it. i’ve just recreated your poect based on description. It’s down to the camera’s point of interest.

What you need to do, is set a postion keyframe for your solid, copy it and paste it into the point of interest for your camera.

Now no matter where you move your camera, your solid will always point towards it and you camera will always look at it.

Umm could you try a luma matte?

If the white has picked up enough light it might be an easier key. you could also try a garbage matte of the talent’s face and animate the keyframes if needed.

Just to double-check: You’ve turned on auto-orient towards camera for your layer in 3D. set your player in 3D space and then you animate your camera to fly around, or are you flying your layer around?

You have created a camera? You’re not using the active camera setting in the preview window? it’s a mistake i’ve made before and took ages to spot it.

In the past when i’ve wanted to render a large number of projects, i create a new project and just import all the separate projects into it. you can then render out all your comps quite easily

There isn’t a statue as such, just the basic nude figure in Poser. changing the colour settings should get you close to gold.

Obviously Dave is right about copyright, although if this is for a non-broadcast charity ‘home project’ then AMPAS would never learn about it. And if it is this type of project, would they even care?

I have heard some scary stories about AMPAS though, like there’s a chef who makes oscar cakes, and designed a statuette mould, which AMPAS keep locked up 360 days of the year and let him use only to make cakes at oscar time.

If you are worried at all though, then go the other way with this. For some tongue-in-cheek teachers awards we did, i filmed a garden gnome against bluescreen.
