[Dave Giardina] “I’m not sure why I don’t even get a window that pops up once I click “DV”.”
Do you know if your camera has been recognised? Are you using the VidCap Vegas program to Import?

March 1, 2018 at 5:49 am in reply to: Strange shaded areas on tracks, Track layers expanded — how to reset?[Rob Lindsay] “There is also a red edge to a clip and the playback screen shows a split image of two scenes! And notice the black area at the end of track 3.”
Well, the Red Edge is Expanded Edit Mode. You can remove this by double clicking on it. But the real issue is that side-by-side Previewing you’ve got from Preview from the Trimmer? That has me stumped.
I’m testing this by firing-up VP13 – I’m now on VP15 B311, so I needed to test like-for-like. I’m testing for you on VP13 Build453. What is your Build? It’s best to check to see we are on the same Build, before we cry foul – there may be a bugster. OR it is a feature for for the Trimmer I’ve not come across.
Interesting . .

It’s a Feature. That X indicates you’ve activated “Expand Track Layer” Mode. Double-click the edge of an A/B Event or right-click the track header and deselect “Expand Track Layer”. I never use it.

Well, James, you replied! Much appreciated. It’s the path travelled, not the time taken. Unless there’s a Lion chasing yah, then, I guess, it’s still the path travelled?

[Ellis Holban] ” (I think) The problem showed up when I changed the Encoder on OBS from x264 to QuickSync H.264.”
Yup, that’ll be the issue that is creating mayhem. Try a fresh sample with your previous setup. If that works then that’s a controlled experiment to confirm that everything else falls back on your change.
Get yourself to the Official MAGIX Vegas Pro site. There will be others to assist and many more having had this issue.
HTH?

[Ellis Holban] “I’ve tried all your steps, but nothing worked. Including the reset. Now I’m starting to get a tad bit worried.”
Hmm… Is that 4k Media you are successfully Previewing, prior to making an edit? I also note that your Preview Output is Progressive but your Media is Interlace. Why? Did you match your Project Settings to the Media? I could understand that the Prog Preview would be fine, but on making an Edit this may get issues in then Previewing for a possible under-specced system, if you are running 4k.
MediaInfo would greatly assist us. Including myself, it’s used by many people here. It’s a great little diagnostic assist.
My thoughts? – There is some badly fitting math going on and your platforms are trying to play catch-up after an edit.
