Vegas PRO preview completely messed up
I’ve been using Vegas for a while now, but there’s this one problem that recently got me stuck and annoyed, when I dragged the video into the tracks, it was fine. However, when I cut the video anywhere, the preview is almost completely covered in black and opposite colours. I rendered the looped region, and half of it was very messed up but then the rest of it was fine. As well if I dragged the line across the track, almost the entire video seems to gimped in the preview. But when I play the entire video from the beginning, some parts are gimped but then the rest of the video is fine, including the looped region where I cut it. But when I try to render it, it goes black in the same places. It’s a bit hard to explain. I’ve tried multiple ways to get rid of it as well as looking online for a solution, but to no avail.

Supply us with:
A)MediaInfo information.
B) PC specifications.Also try these fixes:
1) Turn off GPU.
2) If you have 32bit Floating point revert to 8 bit.
3) Match Project Settings to the Media.
4) Do a Factory Reset of Vegas.* Grazie

1. If you’re talking about the open-source program, I don’t have it. If you referring to my media information, it’s 2256×1504, and the bitrate is 3649 kbps. Also 60 fps.
2. I use Sony Vegas on two computers, the first one is an HP Pavilion with a Intel(R) Core (TM) 17-4790 CPU @ 3.60 GHz processor with 8 gb of ram. The second is a Microsoft Surface with an Intel(R) Core(TM) 15-7200U CPU @ 2.50GHz 2.71 GHz processor with 4 gb or ram. Both computers experience the same problems when the same video is in Vegas.
I’ve tried all your steps, but nothing worked. Including the reset. Now I’m starting to get a tad bit worried.

Hmm… Is that 4k Media you are successfully Previewing, prior to making an edit? I also note that your Preview Output is Progressive but your Media is Interlace. Why? Did you match your Project Settings to the Media? I could understand that the Prog Preview would be fine, but on making an Edit this may get issues in then Previewing for a possible under-specced system, if you are running 4k.
MediaInfo would greatly assist us. Including myself, it’s used by many people here. It’s a great little diagnostic assist.
My thoughts? – There is some badly fitting math going on and your platforms are trying to play catch-up after an edit.

Alright, so I got MediaInfo and I’m viewing the media I’m using for the video. How can I tell if it’s 4K? And how do I tell if the media is interlaced? Can I change the media from interlaced to progressive? I’m not a very tech savvy person. One thing to note is that the media is footage I recorded on ZSNES, a SNES emulator. I have tried editing ZSNES footage prior to today, and I didn’t have that problem, until now. (I think) The problem showed up when I changed the Encoder on OBS from x264 to QuickSync H.264. I’m not changing it to anything else because the frame rate drops significantly when I change it back. So is there any way that this problem can be resolved?

Yup, that’ll be the issue that is creating mayhem. Try a fresh sample with your previous setup. If that works then that’s a controlled experiment to confirm that everything else falls back on your change.

OK, I came up with a solution. I will continue to record my videos in 4K, but I will convert the videos from 4K to 1080p using Handbrake. I’ve tried that and it works for me.
