  • [Evan Peters] “Any way to have multiple masks on one clip, and select all the anchor points of one mask while not selecting the other?”

Sure, Select PATH rather than ALL.

I just set up a 2 Mask sample. I went to M2 and Right Clicked one of M2 Points and Selected Path. This way I got just M2’s Points Selected.

[John Rofrano] ” It seems I spend most of my time navigating the file system because Vegas remembers the last folder you opened regardless of if it had anything to do with the current project you are working on.”

Well, yes. . . . It is expensive “dumb” time too. It isn’t time that adds any value in any way to my creative activity.

I’ve more than thrice brought this to SCS over the years, and can’t quite work out what “deaf ears” my suggestion is falling on. However, I have many of my own and other’s suggestions incorporated. But this is such a truly a fundamental requirement, it is beyond my wit and wisdom why it hasn’t happened, and happened a long long time ago.

As Johnny says, ACID has it!

I’ve been a big fan of Logitech cordless. My previous one lasted at least 8 years! However my almost year old Logitech Performance Mouse is having a bit of a aneurysm? I’ve got a Customer Support ticket running on it. But up and until now it has been all I needed.

On another point, be warned about Graphic tablets. My one, which has been as good as gold, has given VP11 b683 the heebie jeebies. I’ve disconnected it.

    Grazie

  • Confirmed.

Compatibility OFF, and I get Media Manager filling the MM Pane!!!!

This HAS to be a really big clue for you guys at SCS?

NB: I have the LATEST Media Manager. Doesn’t that follow, for an end User like myself that Media Manager is fit for purpose for Microsoft Windows 7?

So, here are the choices for me:-

Compatibility Mode ON = Stability but NO MM filling the MM pane

Compatibility Mode OFF = Stability is “challenged” but MM correctly fills the MM pane.

    Grazie

  • Jim, is that right? I’ve done exactly that. I’m running 683 in comparability mode and have had MM disappear from its Pane. I’ll repeat your method and SEE if I get MM back.

So, it’s EITHER stability OR MM, but not both. If that IS correct you may have stumbled on a real pointer for the SCS engineers – hopefully…..

  • Y’know, I looked at your post and the “Zero” replies and I thought, who’s gonna jump in first or WILL somebody get to answering you before I raised my pennant?

OK, I’ll approach in attempting to answer in this fashion: Here’s what Vegas can do and then what I do. Perhaps that’s a way forward, and then for others wishing to reply . .

    Ahem . . . . .

Vegas’s talent has been to be able to deal with MOST flavours of format: Audio and Video and many combinations of formats in-between. It’s been its Party trick for many years. This has meant it has had to have a flexible response to our whims; outputs formats and the various capturing devices out there . . Time Moves on . . . . Things have gotten a little weird and strained out there, and the multitude of Formats (AVCHD and don’t get me started on MP4 and non-globally recognised formats!) have made Vegas the likely U.N. of the NLE World. Apart from being encompassing to the many formats, it can ALSO allow us to adjust at the 3 places you’ve identified as being options for setups. So, on the One Hand we have an NLE that says “Yes” to Formats and again “Yes” as to how we want to then go ahead and work with those formats and then “Yes” to the Output<>Render we want.

    I really understand why you’ve asked the question . . . I really do . . .

Now, my workflow is to say:”Hmmmm, what is the majority of my work being delivered in – FOR THIS PROJECT?” If it was SD 720×576 PAL then that’s exactly who I would set up my Project. Easy. If like now I’m shooting with my Canon XF300 – 1440×1080 50i PAL, then again I now set my Project to match my Canon Output. I’ve kept and keep my options tight to the content I use. This means Vegas isn’t forever4 trying to manipulate my MXF files to display at SD. The project matches the the Content – this is good for Previewing and Editing.

Now IF I have any other footage that needs to be converted to a MAIN Project Vegas CAN do that too. So, conversion is also a place that would mean I would fiddle with the settings. This COULD happen at Event level or where ever.

I hope this has gone some way in answering your question; has allowed others to dip in and placed front and centre just why we have these option in Vegas.

I’ll leave the truly VooDoo replies of Why Upper to Lower and the various resolution formats and WHERE one should apply these factors to others. But I did, hopefully, get your ball rolling.

Party tricks are great! However, we also need some understanding to recognise it is a trick and not some trick/confusion of the light! – And then it just becomes too vague and disappointing.

    Cheers

Do you want to apply different picture play times? If so you’ll need to trim each and every one individually.

  • There a couple of initial issues with that artwork you’ve got to take onboard:-

    1) It’s not got enough resolution, I can see pixelation on straight edges.

    2) The design itself is working against smooth edge panning, it’s just too thin that the low reso will work against your best efforts.

So, what to do? Get or increase the resolution. Rethink actually doing a pan. Or if you are fixed on the idea of doing a Pan, then take a massive blowup of the logo, soften/defocus let this Pan behind a static logo. This’ll establish movement and can look rather effective.

But I think all your efforts are being hobbled from the start by using a low reso artwork. You’ll need to clean up some of those artwork “edge” line remnants, far left and right of the logo?

Not what you were wanting to hear, but it’s all a learning process and this is one of occasions.

July 8, 2012 at 3:49 am in reply to: No video with MP4

I’m not sure that VV8 can handle the latest of these phone’s outputs? Have you done this type of activity before, using VV8?

You might benefit from getting more information on that MP4 by having it interrogated by: G-Spot and MediaInfo. I use these free download utilities that give me more conclusive details on Media.

MP4 is an envelope that contains several and, different to each MP4, layers of audio and video. From what I’ve read MP4 isn’t as rigid in its layer determination as say an MPEG2. In which case I’m really not surprised that a fairly old NLE platform, isn’t up to being able to read output from a new mobile phone’s MP4.

You’re going to need some more precise intel on that MP4. Maybe you’d need to convert the Media prior to ingesting into VV8?

    Interesting.

July 8, 2012 at 3:29 am in reply to: Older projects ghosting in new project??

When you rendered, did you have another Track of Media above your rendered Event? That’ll give you ghosting. What you appear to be suggesting is that just by the process of rendering you’re getting Ghosting. If that should prove to be the case, that’s the first time I’ve read of such a case. But stranger things have happened.

In the meantime, please check that you hadn’t left a “live” Event above your Target Track. Or a very very long overlapped Event!

    Grazie
