Good question.

Dave, thanks for the further information. Understandably, as you’ve posted your request on the Vegas Pro Forum, I believed you were wanting to capture using the Vegas Pro software’s Capture utility. Understood. Not having an FW Input on your PC, you can’t do it this way. What you’ve got is a “solution” that is totally separate from Vegas Pro. Understood. What you have is an Analogue Output, courtesy of your SONY Handycam, being converted to an A/V output, then using that Video Grabber to convert it to a form that a PC can be used to “capture”. This is still not into Vegas Pro. These files would be lying somewhere on your PC. So, initially, you need to understand/deal with the recognition of this “VHS to Digital Converter, Video Grabber USB Capture Card” by your PC. This is where the issue lies. Once you can have your PC communicate with this “VHS to Digital Converter, Video Grabber USB Capture Card“, then you can, hopefully, have the footage on your PC imported into Vegas Pro. Phew!!
Open your Device Manager and see IF this “VHS to Digital Converter, Video Grabber USB Capture Card” is being recognized by your PC. If it isn’t then you’ve got a problem. If it is then there has to be some s/w that comes with your device, I can see it in the descriptions on Amazon, and follow their instructions.
So, to understand all this:
Your DV-Tape >> Is converted by SONY Handycam to A/V >> That A/V output is further converted to Digital DATA and on your PC, but can not be directly captured/imported into Vegas Pro. Vegas Pro would/could possibly import the files that have been deposited within a Folder on your PC.
As I said, you initially need to have your PC recognize this “VHS to Digital Converter, Video Grabber USB Capture Card“. Here’s a test: If you unplug that USB, do you hear an Audio notification that “something” has been removed? If so then your “VHS to Digital Converter, Video Grabber USB Capture Card” is being “seen” by your PC.
Keep us updated.

VegasPro only uses Firewire to capture directly DV Tapes – period. I’ve only ever captured DV Tapes through FW, and I’ve captured hundreds of hours of work for editing this way. I’ve absolutely no idea what that information you’re getting from SONY even means? If you could post a link to that source I’d like to read it.
Until somebody corrects me, fundamentally, there’s a huge difference between FW and USB. FW deals with a continuous Streams of DATA, perfect for spinning DV TAPES. Unlike USB which only deals with discreet Packets of DATA. Sure, you can load data via USB we do this all the time. I use a USB Card reader to upload my Video work. It’s lickety-spit quick and done in a flash. But this is NOT using the VP capturing utility. You need to recognise the difference between DATA transfer – USB – and capturing – FIREWIRE.
Thanks for the trip down “Memory Lane”. Do I miss using FW? Do I miss needing to capturing in real-time? Five hours taking five hours with the potential loss of frame and FS breakdown? No. Do I missing using the VP pre workflow logging method? Maybe. But then again, meah, no. Do I miss using Scenealyser? No.

And what method was that, John? Or even a Link?

John Perez? Any news?

Yes PNG Image sequence – correct.
Yes, these are rendering options in VP19 – correct.
QT is part of the “deprecated features” Tab and I have decided to have it available. I have QT7 installed, however, QT is no longer supported. Until I can obtain the ALPHA from MagicYUV working in VP19 I’ve got to be using the unsupported QT7 – it’s working.
Won’t that have a long render time and produce thousands of images?Won’t that have a long render time and produce thousands of images?
Depending on the length of the Event. I just did one and it was fast. You will get as many Images as there are Frames in your Event. You do the math, each Frame is a PNG.
Did you follow up on Ernest Rasado’s suggestion?

June 12, 2022 at 5:33 am in reply to: Why does my vegas 9 platinum hd crash when the project has many different files?Hi there, this is the VegasPro Forum. You need the Vegas Movie Studio Platinum Forum to get more targeted feedback. I don’t see a COW option/forum for this. So, here’s the link:

I don’t understand how it could look perfect in the Media Player but messed up in Vegas, but that is what happened.
Many reasons, but high on the list would be that VP is strict about what it lets in and on this instance, MP wasn’t. Now, I’ve had the reverse of that 😉.
There’s two approaches you could use:
1 – Set your Project Settings by navigating to the file and USE that as the setting, very useful.
2 – Use MediaInfo app to ascertain just what’s inside that file. Also very useful, and much used by us VegHeads.
Lesson here is that don’t use WMP as the yardstick.

I can’t reproduce your issue in VP19 B636, renders and plays smoothly.
You’ve done some logical testing, good! Now, all that’s left is to establish just how much space you’ve got left on drives, and RAM health. VegasPro, once loaded, VP demands the sureness of everything else working nicely. You’ve established that this is a problem with other versions of VP, now’s the time to look to your system being able to get VP to work. Cancel GPU and default your Build Ram to ZERO.
And again, working here.

then render an additional MP4 with your alpha channel only.then render an additional MP4 with your alpha channel only.
Are you suggesting that an MP4 can provide an ALPHA channel?
