You can already determine in Project Media window how many times you’ve used a file or not. It’s in the COUNT column.

There are many searches that you can use, and, for example you can search for COUNT of ZERO and have that saved as a NEW bin!

You can do all this within VEGAS. You don’t need/require EXCEL.

Are you saying this is for existing projects, or new projects? Had you used the “Start all new projects with these settings” – I just did with your settings and a new projects holds your settings.

On a tangential approach I’ve imported my own DVDs back into Vegas Pro. These where DVDs I’d created/burnt using DVDA. Now, realise that these would have been videos compressed down to a lower res MPEG. So how lossless you’d want, I dunno!

Any free programs or any programs I’d point you to? I haven’t used nor needed to – sorry ???? …. My workflows are straightforward and have been honed down by bad hard-knock purchases I’ve made over the decades, resulting in a wish to keep my Capture to Import to Edit to Deliver as seamless and as simple as I can, leaving me free to do the fun thing, being creative! ????

Seriously, there should be something out there, but finding it or modding it for your needs is beyond my abilities.

Good. This has confirmed the audio is AC3. Vegas has a history of difficulty with importing AC3, there are some exceptions and workflow workarounds to this, but mostly it’s not a good idea to involve AC3 anywhere in the import workflow. You can go ahead and research the options in getting AC3 into VP. My thoughts would be to irradicate any AC3 Capture.

Also do check the part of the MediaInfo reporting logs that reveal the available CODEC on your PC. This will further indicate if your PC will deal with both the Video and Audio content.

Right, I’m starting to get a grip on your setup. Thank you.

I used to use a DELL laptop, with a PCMCIA slot. It also had a 4-pin 1394, which in my case was optimised for Video in. Notice that! Now, I expanded my setup and used the PCMCIA slot with a double 6-pin and used this for the streamed capturing to be pumped out to external FW hard drives, daisey-chained together.

What I had to do was access the power management system and take the DELL off anything that was used to auto adjust the battery charging! As this would interfere and make the capturing hit and miss. Sound familiar? The other thing was I needed to install a clever tool that would allow for the temperature control also NOT to interfere with the slick capturing.
