No it won’t. DVCAM is a superior format to BetaSP, especially when you’re working in a computer based digital environment.

This will happen to some extent no matter what, because in the end, you’re mastering to a vide tape that has some kind of compression and the video will get compressed again even if you edit totally and utterly uncompressed.
However, DVCpro50 is pretty nice compression and will provide a video quality that’s visually losless.

Most likely cause is a permissions issue. The plugins need to be read and write enabled for all users on the system who use FCP.
Next cause is that you put the plugins in a folder in your library folder, rather than the main library folder on the root of the computer.

Totally agreed. I was just pointing out that out of all the currently available formats that people master to, BetaSP is arguably the worst looking. I’d hate anyone to shoot something on DVCpro50 and master to BetaSP instead of DVCpro50 thinking that they’re keeping the master in the best quality possible. And indeed given that all the digital formats are in some way compressed, one of the worst things you can do is then move the video to a highly compressed analogue format, adding together the worst of the analogue and digital realms.
Sure, if the station needs it on SP because they’re poor, then fine, but master to the DVCpro50 and make an SP dub for the station. It’s the comment above that BetaSP is “uncompressed” which leads to people I know in our local industry doing some pretty strange things in terms of choice of personal archive mastering formats in a misguided belief they’re preserving things in the best looking format, and will state such BS as “BetaSP is 4:2:2 uncompressed” which it is most plainly and obviously not.

BetaSP is definately not uncompressed. It has about 3/4 of the luma resolution of an fully uncompressed SD video signal, and about 1/3 of the chroma resolution and is noisier. Anywhere that asks for a master on BetaSP is doing so because they’re living in the past and haven’t been able to afford to upgrade to better digital equipment. Any TV station that wants video in a quality modern format will request Digital Betacam and refuse BetaSP.

Even further, given that it’s being shot DVCPro50, it should be mastered to at least that standard, and BetaSP is way below that standard.

YOu need to blur it before it gets shrunk down. That should stop the twittering. Or take the logo into photoshop, scale it down there, and bring it back into FCP.

As for Compressor 2 – Apple didn’t really have it set up to demo at NAB, so I couldn’t see what it was like or what the rendering times are like, but if it’s anything like any other technology that is doing full motion adaption it won’t just be slow, it’ll be glacial.
Just the other day, I had another user do a convert using my software and preferred the results to the same conversion done on a Snell & Wilcox Alchemist and Ukon, so I think there’s still life left in my Standards Converter. I’m working on new quality improvements now, and it will do much better HD to SD downconvesion too.

Eh? 1080p24, 1080p30, 1080i60 are the 1080 frame rates supported.
