I can probably spend 3-4000 on the computer and about 2500 on the software. I plan to use tha Mac for video and other graphics.
What does one need to get along with FCP to be able to put out Blu-Ray discs?
Would I need a seperate authoring program?
    What about FX?
    Thanks.

Thanks to both of you, your input has lead me to go ahead with my own release form for any employees in the video. I am hoping that since I will hold the releases then the client will be more inclined to return to me when they need modifications.

    Thanks.

I guess I should quit looking for the impossible. Will just add an email link so we can mail a DVD of the video.
So much for the instant gratification. But I guess that with dialup you have to wait for everything…

Just a note on the 8mm. Take along one of your tapes to try. The new 8mm digital cameras are not all compatible with the old analog tapes. The cheapest camera will not do the job.
I do the VHS and 8mm transfer here, charge $20.00/hour of your video plus the miniDV tapes or external HD.
Cheaper to do it yourself. One problem you will find is that if the video is not steady, breaks in the time code, it will usually stop a computer download. You have to sit and monitor every tape so you can restart the download every time this happens. You will not have this problem if you transfer it player to miniDV camera but then you end up with twice as many tapes as you have now.

Right side of cam, around the pause/rec RED button there is a “LOCK/STANDBY” switch. Use this rather than the camers/off/play(VCR) switch and it will retain ALL settings.

    Hope this helps you…

I do this for a living. Be glad to help you out.
I think the main problem with quality is:
“With Premiere (using Mac) I have to make a QuickTime Movie for DVD authoring. I made test files using a number of different compressors, and the Sorenson seemed the best, but do you recommend a particular compressor to maintain high image quality?
Quicktime compresses(loss of quality) the photos to much.

You might try updating the 1394 drivers.
Make sure that you have the latest chipset drivers.
    AND
Most important is to have the latest BIOS for the computer.

These three things are the most common problems with recognizing new hardware…
