The current version of Resolve do allow you to adjust your timeline settings after creation.

Click on the timeline options, and select a custom setting. See if that works with your footage.

There are companies that do your editing footage and software licenses all in the cloud. The idea being, instead of buying a new computer every few years, you can use their array of computers, get kick ass speed, fast storage, and the latest software for 150 to 200 a month.

If you spend 5 to 10 grand on a computer that lasts 4 years…the price seems reasonable.

You just need a basic computer to link up to their service. Plus, when you render your outputs, you are drawing on a mass array of boxes. And then, when you want to send to the client…you are using their super high speed internet for that transmission as well.

The storage options are pretty pricey however….as is most cloud storage over a few hundred gigs.

While I can’t speak to the cloud aspect, as its just too expensive for my needs.

I can say I have successfully been using Mimiq with a Qnap setup between two Avids in my studio for over 2 years now. The only issues i had was at the start when I was going between a Mac and a Windows box, running different versions of Avid…and yes I was told not to expect that to be perfect.

I’ve switched my second box over to Windows, and when I needed that support station to be an assist station working on the same show I’m on, I turned off my 2018 dongle and did a few months of subscription, so it was as up to date as my current box…worked perfectly.

In other times, i simply let it run with older software, and if I do happen to load up a project that is open on my other box, it seems to be fine for the short run i’m doing. (Outputting or something like that) Mimiq isn’t “sketchy” in my experience.

Ok Chris, i took a quick peak at this.

I did what I assume you did, which, again assuming, you did dnxHD not dnxHR?

I created dnxhd 720 8 bit media, exported an ALE out of Resolve.

Brought that media into Avid via link, and tried to import the ALE…got the same result as you, an error. I then exported an ALE out of Avid to see what was different. The ALE in Resolve does say that the media is (in my case) 4k, not 720, which makes sense, as the ALE is based on source material, not what you are about to output.

I’m not sure that is the issue however. I think it is the DNX HD. When you get 1080 to work, are you doing DNXhd or DNXhr? I ask, because the other item i see in the ALE from Avid is the clip name has a .mxf extension on it, but the ALE from Resolve doesn’t. Once I changed this in notepad ++ the ALE merged inside Avid.

I did try changing a couple of other items along the way in Notepad ++, and none of them solved the problem until i lost the .mxf extension in the name column. It is possible it worked because of a combo of things, but i’m guessing it was the .mxf extension.

Give that a try and see if it works.

You need a locked signal going into your card from the vhs deck. A TBC would be the preferred piece of equipment, but I actually run vhs tapes through a DVD recorder. This was suggested by somebody somewhere…and it works. The DVD must have a built in TBC, because it does seem to lock down the signal before going into the capture card.

I’m going to guess the ALE out of Resolve is tagging the clips as 1080, while the bin in Avid is tagging the clips at 720…that may be your error. Have you tried editing the 1080 column to be 720?

Or bring the 720 media into resolve, and make an ale from that?…just spit ballin here.

shared storage systems do not use the “number only” format. They use computer name.number. Perfectly normal.

If you are talking about the colour, its a bleach bypass effect. Common in plugins, but typically easier to control with a home made recipe. Google search “how to bleach bypass” and i’m sure you will find something. Home made is a bit tougher in Avid, without proper transfer modes (screen or overlay or add usually will work) so you would have to find a plugin for that part of the effect.

sounds like a custom keyboard shortcut is contradicting your commands
