First of all Nick, well done. That might sound strange, but many people just jump in and start cutting, with no thoughts on if what they are doing is going to work. Its nice to read someone who has clearly done their research, and is doing tests on their workflow before undertaking a huge project.

For what it is worth, when I relink to the original AMA clips I usually take my original Avid media offline. (rename the mxf folder to something else, or move the folder inside the mxf folder up one level. I seem to have better success with relinks, if there Is no doubt what I’m trying to relink to.

I’m assuming your original links are still showing proper video?

That being said, I have had lots of instances where I will select all my clips, select my sequence and hit relink, and only some of them come online. If this happens, I usually just do the exact same thing again. Quite often, more clips seem to find their way on a second pass.

As with all things Avid, your mileage may vary.

can you test the camera original clip inside resolve?

have you tried creating a 23.98 project in resolve and not having the xml “automatically adjust project settings” on import.

Also if you bring in a native 23.98 shot before you bring in anything else, that will lock your project to that format.

I’m not a premiere user, so I’m not sure what it is doing when you do the interpretation, but if the source media is 29.97, I’m assuming you are going to have to force Resolve to work with it, or output a baked quicktime out of Premiere at 23.98 and work with that.

Never a stupid question

Selecting a node shouldn’t give the results you are seeing. Are you sure your 3rd node is connected and turned on? (does it have a red x through it?

what type is your third node?

Add another node after the third node, and colour the whole scene purple…then select the second node…the scene should still be purple.

There are some nodes that need to have a change done to them before they will become visible, and any node that is not connected can really bugger things up in the tree…but simple clicking on an earlier node shouldn’t turn off nodes later in the tree.

Here is a discussion about my setup from a couple of weeks ago. I’m sure it could be modified for different hardware, but using the same box to edit and stream on would be difficult as you are going to run into a conflict…feeding either your monitor, or the streamer.

I don’t know if he still sells it, but Tao Of Color’s “master class” series has an entire video devoted to scopes…reading them, how different settings will give different reactions. If memory serves he has about an hour video on just this type of thing.

Now I say I don’t know if he still sells it because he has kinda moved on to grade along videos, but if you check out his site, and contact him, I’m sure he will answer your questions.

Also FXPHD used to offer a color theory program. It might be in their vault section.

the frame rate/resolution of your source media wont really kill you when trying to import it. Avid will import it…might not look right, depending on some other settings, but you can certainly import the clip.

what codec is the quicktime in that you are importing?
have you tried ama linking?
can you play this quicktime outside of Avid on the same computer?
is it actually a quicktime, or is it some raw camera file?

obviously in a perfect world, you would wait till the project is complete, but situations arise when “best practices” need to be ignored.

I would assume the rules will be the same for 3 as later versions. You will be told to uninstall the software before the new version will install. Just back up your projects folder before proceeding.

In an extreme case you could always rollback to 3, but you shouldn’t have any issues.
