Hey all,
Thanks for the heads-up on Color…it’s a little daunting at first, as I’ve been doing all my Color grading in After Effects…
Here’s a question:
I’ve brought some HDV footage into Color, made my changes, and then rendered it out…but somewhere along the line, my footage is going from 16:9 to 4:3…I have the setup correct in that it’s HDV1060i 1920 x 1080. The rendered film ends up at 1440 x 1080…
Any thoughts on where I’m going wrong?
Thanks again!

Well, Wayne, I did, in fact, opt for the JTL 1500 kit. Although I realize I could have gone in any number of directions, at that price, it seemed like the best way to get out the door.
Thanks again for your opinion and I’ll let you know how I make out!

Wayne,
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question. I certainly did a search before posting, and to your point, the large number of opinions actually made the waters slightly more murky. I was hoping some opinions had perhaps changed in the meantime!
I think I’m going to look into the Lowel kits.
Thank you, once again, and to everyone for thier support.

Oh, and in the meantime, I’ve purchased the seemingly popular DVD on the subject…

Hey Dave , et al…
What is the difference between playing back the audio by hitting the “period” on the numeric keypad vs. doing a RAM Audio Preview (shift + 0 on the Mac)?
Just curious as I was reading this thread, and, being still somewhat new to AE Keyboard shortcuts, hadn’t found that one just yet…
Thanks!

December 30, 2006 at 12:10 am in reply to: Producing a demo reel using 2 different comp sizesYeah, Dave, I was thinking about something similar: I was planning on parenting my 16×9 footage to a null then scaling down the entire comp (pretty similar to what you described). Of course, the opposite will work as well. I’ll play with a few iterations of this and see what turns out to be the path of least resistance…
Thanks again, all!

The piece will hopefully end up on DVD, but yes, it will certainly live on the web.
Could you describe how to scale down the HDV footage and letterbox it? (Not sure if I just resize the comp or what).
Thanks, Ian, for the fast reply.

3d assistants from https://www.digitalanarchy.com allow you to create any number of objects in a variety of arrangements and then fly the camera all around them. Totally cool. Also can do the same with lighting, which opens up a million possibilities.

that should do it! thank you!

I should also note that this happens on the HDV setup…even if I drag audio into the timeline all by itslf, the playhead is way behind where the music actually is in the timeline (huge spikes in the waveform but the playhead hasn’t gotten even close to that spot in the timeline) So I can hear where the music is but visually see that the playhead isn’t caught up.
So it doesn’t have to do with the complexity of the comp at all.
Any thoughts?
