DVD? Yes
Hard drive for client? Yes
Hard drive for you and your friends? Yes
Web? Yes
Another editor? Yes🙂 LOL
I’d say, as a rule, most things that come out of AE wind up back in FCP, where I do further editing, etc…then I go out from FCP using Compressor…
So, let’s say as a rule…things will end up on a DVD in many cases, and in most of those cases, I’d usually choose to make a web version using Sorenson Compression Suite.
Does that help?

Both great answers, and I thank you for the start…I will do the experiment with the “difference” mode toggled in AE this evening…
So, I guess now I’m a little more curious:
When doing a “final” render of HDV footage out of AE, what is the best choice of codec that balances quality and economy of file size (if there is such a thing)?
And is Photo-JPEG an acceptable choice for final rendering?

good enough for me 🙂

Ok, Alan, I held the option key while dragging, and that worked.
Thanks. Can you explain what is happening when dragging a folder while holding the option key? It seems to be the only way I could drag the folder in this case.
Thanks,
Gino

This is going to sound insane, and I’ve never experienced this yet on my Mac. I can copy the wondertouch (large) folder, but when I navigate to the new directory, there’s no option to paste it (can’t use keyboard shortcut, either).
What’s up with that?

Hey guys,
I’m following this thread, as I have a Kona LH, FCP6 and a Sony HVR-M10U…
My Sony deck is plugged into my Mac via Firewire (basically bypassing the Kona altogether). I ingest using the HDV settings and have always done that, but I’ve been told here and there (folks at AJA, etc) that I should be using the DVC Pro HD codecs to ingest from my deck. When I try that, however, FC can’t find my deck…
So, do I
a. ingest as HDV and then convert it once it’s in FCP? (and if so, what am I gaining)
b. Somehow ingest it as DVC Pro HD from the deck by getting that Easy Setup to actually see my deck?
c. None of the above…try this (your awesome solution goes here 🙂
Thanks…hope this doesn’t throw the current thread out of whack. Seems like a relevant sub topic.
Best,
Gino

Hey Alan,
Did you get your copy of Motion yet? Still looking to get our existing Motion particles to show up in Motion 3.
Thanks!

Agreed, Alan…I think I’ve actually figured out where they should reside…but it seems to be that the actual OS won’t allow me to move the folder. It asks me to “authenticate” when I try to move from the previous location, and then when I click the “authenticate” button (again, a MAC OS-generated popup), it doesn’t go any further.
Keep me posted and thanks in advance!

Also, I tried to copy the Particle Illusion emitters from the above folder into the native Motion emitters folder (Library > Application Support > Final Cut Studio > Motion > Library > Particle Emitters) and it says that it can’t be moved (then I can click on Authenticate, which does nothing…)
So next steps, I guess 🙂

Hello there,
I seem to have lost my Motion emitters (I have the large bundle) when I installed Motion 3…I looked in Users > Shared > Motion and there’s nothing in there…I reinstalled the emitters, and they showed up in the folder mentioned above, but Motion 3 doesn’t seem to recognize that they’re there. Maybe the plugin folder has changed?
