You need to upgrade to BCC 8 as that is 64bit! BCC7 is 32bit! There is a reduced upgrade price but that finishes on 31st of December I think. All 32 bit plugins will not install into MC6 – you will need to update/upgrade to 64big versions! Hth

September 18, 2011 at 4:06 pm in reply to: EDITING H264 IN Premiere PRO CS5.5 IS VERY SLOWWhat flavour of h.264 is it? There is apparently a known issue with some .mov h.264 from some DSLRs on Mac OSX. There is a workaround to convert the extension to .mpg! You may find this works! I believe it has something to do with the QT importer getting confused. You can find out more about this on the Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 forums.

[Tim Wilson] “Avid Studio is not at all related to Media Composer, or even Xpress. It’s the rebranded version of Pinnacle Studio.
Gerwyn’s point is that Avid Studio is consumer software. Prosumer is a pretty long stretch, imo, although it does have the Blu-ray authoring and 5.1 mixing that is virtually universal in the Windows world. It’s $169 software (newly increased from $129) that’s positioned against iMovie.
So I don’t think FCPX is equivalent to Studio…even though Studio has Blu-ray and FCPX doesn’t…but given what else people are talking about here, it’s in play, with the added twist that it’s across platforms.”
Indeed – this was software supposedly a setup from Studio (read iMovie) to replace Liquid (read FCP)! There are some similarities in the feature set: background rendering; simplified editing/CC; ingest and archiving of tapeless media. All-in-one-app editing/cc/fx/audio sweetening/export.
AVID supposedly wanted the nebulous middle market, whatever that is (beyond newbies but not broadcast/Hollywoodthat). A market segment that some on the Liquid forums felt that AVID meant to be one EDIUS, VEGAS and Premiere Pro were fighting for; it is supposedly aimed at event and wedding videographers.
BTW FCP-X does have limited DVD and Bluray output via Share (similar to FCP 7 but less than DVDSP). Also AVID Studio had the consumer version of Dolby’s codec – FCP-X the far more expensive Dolby Professional codec. Avid Studio does not do 10bit nor does it do above 2k; whereas FCP-X offers Pro Res 4444 and 4k (including Red eventually, evidently).
FCP-X seems like a product released a little early – is this because CS5 and Mercury playback engine forced Apple’s hand? Many DSLR and tapeless users were making the switch to CS5 away from FCP if the many comments on various forums are to be believed.

Actually, this consumer camcorder can record to 1920 x 1080 50p / 60p (h.264 at 28 Mbs in an mpeg2 transport stream – outside the spec of avchd): see here:
Please be advised however that editing these files smoothly in the native codec will require Sony Vegas or PPCS5 to edit 1080 50/60p (or Edius will edit the files natively in 1080 50i, 25p, 720 50p, etc sequence) or and a powerful PC/Mac.
You could also transcode to DNxHD/ProRes (preferred editing codec) using Clipwrap 2, VoltaicHD, AME.
1080 50p/60p footage can not currently be ingested by FCP 7 nor MC5 (both however will smoothly import the 1080 50i files if there is no 1080 50p footage recorded onto the card).
Also remember that there is no bluray 1080 50p for instance. If you want to retain the motion characteristics then you could output to 720 50p. Otherwise it would be 1080 24p or 50i! HTH

You can use clipwrap to transcode to pro res and keep the 5.1 audio. Brilliant app!

It was a typo. Should have read bluray!

I have dvda architect that came with vegas 8 and I can create blurry discs. You should be able to also.

No you can burn an avchd disc on red laser media (you are limited to 20 mins on DVD-5 approx). There’s a tutorial on kenstone.net I think that walks you through it!
