December 22, 2016 at 4:29 pm in reply to: Why Can’t FCPX 10.3 Render Useable Files?

I just had a similar experience with creating a DVD in DVD Studio Pro. The content was a local theatre production recorded in AVCHD, 1920×1080, 30p. I imported to FCPX 10.3 on a 720 Timeline, then exported as a Master File – ProRes LT. Then I used Compressor 4.3 to prepare for DVD (.m2v). The only time I see noise in blacks is on the DVD. Perhaps DVD Studio Pro is the weak link in the chain when it “builds” the DVD?

The Flow dissolve is a nice addition, which will clean up jump cuts in interview edits. Cross Dissolve worked, but was never as smooth as this.

October 30, 2016 at 4:58 pm in reply to: Music Role Colour Change – Bug?

Well, I just learned something about 10.3. The reason the colour of the audio role changed is that I had selected it in the Roles section of the Timeline Index, which shows it as “highlighted”. By selecting another role, such as video, the colour reverts to the original darker green. All is well in the world of FCPX 10.3

A plug-in from Sony is no longer required as FCPX now supports XAVC.

I shoot in XAVC-L 50 mbps on a Sony PXW-X70 with no problem. When I first got the camera two years ago, FCPX didn’t support XAVC-L, and I had to use Sony Catalyst Browse to transcode to ProRes. But since then Apple has worked it out with Sony and all is well. I bought the 4K upgrade for the X70 to keep the camera future proof. My early 2009 vintage MacPro can’t handle 4K on a timeline, but dropping 4K onto a 1080 timeline works nicely – with no degradation on a Ken Burns push in.

  • I apologize, but the answer is beyond my knowledge level. I can drive the car, but I can’t fix the fuel injection system.

That said, these questions come to mind: What are the Project settings? What type of video? Are you using a lot of plugins?

I’ve been sharing or exporting as a ProRes file and importing that file to Compressor since Final Cut Pro 5. It just works.
